Grand National: Corach Rambler favourite

Corach Rambler is widely seen as the leading contender to win the 2024 Grand National Steeplechase to make it two wins in as many years in this prestigious race.

Following what was a tremendous three days of action in 2023’s Grand National, horse racing fans from across the world are anticipating its return to Aintree Racecourse for 2024. The 21 races, from the Close Brothers Manifesto Novices’ Steeple Chase to the latest edition of the Weatherbys nhstallions.co.uk Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race, will be taking place from Thursday 11th to Saturday 13th April 2024.

The race that stands out and is the most revered and famous of the lot at the Aintree Grand National each and every year is the Randox Grand National Steeple Chase. A very popular consensus has the opinion that Corach Rambler is currently the leading contender to win this iconic race as of the time of writing.

Corach Rambler is a memorable name in the world of horse racing, not just because of the vast amount of success in this sport, but also because jockey Derek Fox rode Corach Rambler to a win in this very race back in its most recent renewal at Aintree Racecourse on 15th April 2023. That year, Fox fended off stern competition from the likes of runners-up in the form of Sean Flanagan’s Vanillier and Gaillard Du Mesnil, ridden by Paul Townend, who, in the end, had to settle for a third place finish overall.

Should Corach Rambler emerge as the winner in this very race for the second consecutive occasion, this horse will become the first to achieve the feat of winning two consecutive Grand Nationals since Tiger Roll did so back in 2019, after the inaugural win in 2018. Red Rum was the first horse to win this race back to back, doing so in 1973 and 1974 before winning a third and final Grand National Steeplechase three years later in 1977.

Red Rum remains the horse with the most wins in this race’s history as of the time of writing.

Trainer Lucinda Russell and Jockey Derek Fox have both won the Randox Grand National Steeplechase on more than one occasion already. Aside from the win with Corach Rambler in 2023, both Russell and Fox were the winners of this prestigious race all the way back in the 2017 edition of this very race when they managed to emerge victorious with One For Arthur.

Derek Fox is also the only jockey in this year’s field for the 2024 Randox Grand National to have won it twice.

The most recent race that Corach Rambler took part in was in the 2024 renewal of the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase at this year’s Cheltenham Festival back on Friday 15th March 2024. On this occasion, it was to be a third place finish for Fox and Russell, with Jack Kennedy’s Gerri Colombe and pre-race favourite in the form of Paul Townend’s Galopin Des Champs finishing ahead of them in second and first place respectively.

Whilst Corach Rambler is the leading contender for a lot of people, other horses that are seen as having a very favourable chance of winning the 2024 Randox Grand National includes I Am Maximus, Vanillier, Mr Incredible, and Mahler Mission.

Excitement and anticipation is building rapidly ahead of the 2024 Grand National, which is set to get underway for three days of enthralling racing from Thursday 11th April 2024.
