Night of Thunder and Toormore have earned the chance to take on the world’s best milers at horse racing’s biggest meeting, Royal Ascot, according to trainer Richard Hannon. The pair finished first and second in the Lockinge Stakes, and will now entertain the guests enjoying the Royal Ascot hospitality packages.
Hannon’s star pair will take on Hong Kong star Able Friend and French raider Sollow in the Queen Anne Stakes on the opening day of Royal Ascot. They were separated by a neck on Saturday at Newbury and will head to Royal Ascot in superb form.
Night of Thunder was entering the winners’ enclosure for the first time since his 2,000 Guineas win last season, and is now a 5/1 chance for the Queen Anne Stakes on day one of Royal Ascot. It was a historic day for the Hannon yard as Night of Thunder became the stables fist winner for the leading owners Godolphin.
Hannon said “We’ve been lucky enough to win the Queen Anne with three of the best horses we’ve had in Paco Boy, Canford Cliffs and Toronado. Night of Thunder and Toormore would both be right up there with that trio, and they have earned the chance to have a crack at Solow and Able Friend.” The clash between the international superstars and the home-grown talent should be a fascinating one, which all the guests enjoying Royal Ascot hospitality packages will be eagerly awaiting.
