Cheltenham November Meeting

2024 November Meeting: Preview

The return of the much anticipated Cheltenham November Meeting is just around the corner, and here we preview the action to come.

There is plenty to look forward to in the world of horse racing, with one such race meeting being the much anticipated 2024 Cheltenham November Meeting, which is set to take place over the course of three days, from Friday 15th November to Sunday 17th November. The racing will of course take place at the iconic and historic Cheltenham Racecourse.

Gates open at 10:30am each day, and over the course of this prestigious race meeting, there will be no less than 20 races taking place in total. There will be 6 races on the first day, whilst there will be 7 on the final two days of action on Saturday and Sunday.

Here, we will be taking a look ahead at the races to come over the course of the Cheltenham November Meeting, with a particular focus on the standout race from each of the three days of action at this prestigious race meeting.

Day One (Countryside Day) – Friday 15th November

Action at this year’s November Meeting will begin with Countryside Day, where a total of six races take to the track from 13:10 to 16:05 in the afternoon. The races taking place on this day are as follows:

The Lycetts Insurance Brokers Conditional Handicap Hurdle Race (13:10), The From The Horse’s Mouth Podcast Novices’ Chase (13:45), the Shloer Steeplechase (14:20), the Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Steeplechase (14:55), the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle Race (14:55), and the Valda Energy Novices’ Handicap Hurdle Race (16:05).

The standout race is the Shloer Steeplechase. Nico de Boinville rode pre-race favourite Jonbon to victory in the most recent running of this race back in 2023, with Nicky Henderson the trainer. Tom Cannon’s Edwardstone was the runner-up in second place, whilst Harry Skelton and Nube Negra came third.

Day Two (November Saturday) – Saturday 16th November

The second day of action at Cheltenham will be on Day Two, better known as November Saturday, on 16th November 2024. Racing will be getting underway just after midday, at 12:35pm with the latest renewal of the JCB Triumph Hurdle.

This race will be followed by the Steel Plate & Sections Ltd Amateur Jockeys Handicap Steeple Chase (13:10), the Paddy Power Arkle Challenge Trophy Trial Novices’ Steeple Chase (13:45), the Paddy Power Gold Cup Steeplechase (14:20), the Paddy Power Games Handicap Hurdle Race (14:55), the Paddy Power Intermediate Handicap Hurdle Race (15:30), and the Karndean Design Flooring Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race (16:05).

It is the Gold Cup that will be the standout race for many on the second day of the 2024 Cheltenham November Meeting. Back in 2023, which was when it was last run, it was pre-race favourite Stage Star who came out on top on this occasion, with the Paul Nichols trained horse securing victory with Jockey Harry Cobden on board. Adam Wedge’s Notlongtillmay came in second place, whilst it was Freddie Gingell on board Il Ridoto who had to settle for a third place finish in the end.

Day Three (November Sunday) – Sunday 17th November

We now look ahead to the third and final day of action at the 2024 November Meeting at Cheltenham Racecourse, better known to horse racing fans as November Sunday. Taking place on Sunday 17th November, 7 more races will be taking place from just after midday at 12:10pm, before action for the day and this year’s edition of this race meeting comes to a close later that afternoon at 16:00pm.

The races taking place on this day will be as follows: Shetland Pony Race (12:10), the mallardjewellers.com Maiden Hurdle (13:10), the Southam Handicap Chase (13:45), the Cheltenham Novices Limited Handicap (14:20), the Prestbury Handicap Steeple Chase (14:55), the Unibet Greatwood Hurdle Race (15:30), and the Junior Jumper Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race (16:00).

The standout race is undoubtedly the 2024 renewal of the Unibet Greatwood Hurdle Race, which was won last year by Iberico Lord, ridden by Jockey Nico de Boinville and trained by Nicky Henderson. Jack Quinlan’s Lookaway came in second place, whilst James Bowen’s Luccia came in third.

Excitement and anticipation are building rapidly ahead of the 2024 edition of the Cheltenham November Meeting, which will be getting underway on Friday 15th November 2024 at the historic Cheltenham Racecourse.
