Nottingham Open - Second Round Review

Aegon Open Nottingham Hospitality – Radwanska and Konta progress

British No. 2 Johanna Konta and top seed Agnieszka Radwanska both eased into the second round of the Aegon Open Nottingham with comfortable victories on Tuesday. The opening day of the WTA event provided some superb action for guests enjoying the outstanding Aegon Open Nottingham hospitality facilities inside the Sherwood Suite.

With the backing of the vocal home crowd on centre court at the Nottingham Tennis Centre, 24-year-old Konta breezed past seventh-seed Slovakian Magdalena Rybarikova, 6-3 6-3 breaking her serve on four occasions.

After the win Konta said “I’ve been having a good, healthy year so far and I’ve been able to play a lot of matches. I’ve enjoyed playing here for the past two years. I love the courts, I love that Centre Court, so I’m happy I got to play on that today and again tomorrow.”

Radwanksa also made light work of her first round match against Alla Kudryavtseva winning 6-0 6-3. The former Championships, Wimbledon, progresses to face Christina McHale of the USA on Thursday afternoon.

Tuesdays action began with a shock win as World no.102 Magda Linette of Poland defeated former World No. 5 Daniela Hantuchova in a thrilling three-set encounter, 6-2 4-6 7-4(4). Meanwhile, British 20-year-old Katy Dunne went down 6-1 6-2 to Belarusian Olga Govortsova, who is ranked 173 places above the Hemel Hempstead-born wildcard.
