Sam Allardyce - England Football

Allardyce leaves England role

What a shambles the England Football Team is in.

Scarcely believable that Sam Allardyce could make such a fool of himself in such a short space of time – gone in 67 days. Clearly he had to depart.

How do such big personalities fall for these newspaper stings? Perhaps the only surprise was it was the Daily Telegraph and not one of the usual red tops. These suckers seem to think they are Gods and above being caught out. Greed and power get the better of them.

Allardyce was on a salary of £3 million plus bonuses. How much do you need?

He even took his agent and financial adviser along to the meeting with the supposed Far East businessmen. And none of them could spot that their hosts were “fake sheiks”.

Allardyce has skated on thin ice in the past when with Bolton and survived. There was no surviving this time after his detailed advice on how to “get around” rules on player transfers and willingness to negotiate a £400,000 deal.

England were a shambles in Euro 2016, Roy Hodgson had to resign and now Allardyce is on his bike.

Gareth Southgate will take temporary charge for four matches against Malta, Slovenia, Scotland and Spain as the FA searches for Allardyce’s successor.

Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe, former Hull City boss Steve Bruce and previous England manager Glenn Hoddle are among the possible candidates.

Southgate has a wonderful opportunity to make the job his own. Could England steal away Spurs’ Mauricio Pochettino?  Would it be too ludicrous to suggest they poach Eddie Jones from rugby?

Yes, England really are that desperate.
