Anthony Joshua v Alexander Povetkin fight at Wembley Stadium

Anthony Joshua: British Champ Faces Alexander Povetkin at Wembley Stadium

It’s been confirmed! Britain’s Anthony Joshua will face Russia’s Alexander Povetkin in a captivating night of box office entertainment at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 22nd September.

28-year-old Joshua, who stands at a towering 6’6’’, currently holds the WBA Super, IBF, WBO and IBO Heavyweight World titles. His rival, Alexander Povetkin, is a WBA mandatory challenger, and one who can certainly pose a dangerous threat when given the opportunity.

All eyes will be on Joshua, however, who currently boasts a 21-0 record (20 wins by knockout).

Wembley Stadium has certainly proved a happy hunting ground for the 28-year-old Brit. It was the scene of his historic triumph over legendary Champion Wladimir Klitschko in April 2017, where he produced the performance of a lifetime to claim the WBA crown in an unforgettable battle in front of a post-war record crowd of 90,000.

Having since beaten Joseph Parker at the Principality Stadium in March, the British Champ had this to say ahead of his upcoming fight: “I can’t wait to get back in the ring. The end of March feels a long time ago now.

“Povetkin is a serious challenge that I will prepare meticulously for, he has serious pedigree, and only a fool would underestimate what he brings to the table.

“Training hasn’t stopped for me, but the next 10 weeks ahead will be intense both mentally and physically. I will push myself to breaking point to make sure I am in peak condition for another huge night for British boxing at Wembley Stadium on September 22.”

Joshua’s challenger Alexander Povetkin, is certainly no man to trifled with. Once a WBA champion, he now holds a record of 34-1 with his most recent victory involving a brutal knock-out on David Price on the Joshua-Parker undercard. He now predicts a memorable battle against his fellow Olympic gold medallist, Joshua.

“Anthony Joshua has four belts and I want them all.,” said Povetkin. “I’m glad that our fight will finally take place, the meeting of two Olympic champions in the ring is destined to be a breathtaking event.”

Joshua became IBF heavyweight champion by defeating American boxer, Charles Martin at London’s O2 Arena in 2016. He added the WBA belt to his collection the following year by defeating the aforementioned Ukranian, Wladimir Klitschko, at Wembley Stadium. His bout with Povetkin is arguably one of his toughest yet!
