England and New Zealand renew their rivalry as the Royal London One-Day International series begins at Edgbaston this afternoon. The five match series includes games at the KIA Oval, the Ageas Bowl, the Emirates Durham Stadium, Old Trafford and Trent Bridge. Eventmasters are delighted to focus on the fourth ODI where we offer official cricket hospitality packages for the match in Nottingham on Wednesday 17th June. The series between the World Cup finalists and a young exciting England team promises to be a fascinating encounter. Two fine batsman captain the sides, Eoin Morgan continues to lead the English side following on from the World Cup. While the Black Caps are led by the world’s most explosive one-day cricketer Brendan McCullum, who is sure to light up every ground he plays in.
Despite the fact England have taken the decision to rest some of their more established stars including Jimmy Anderson and Ian Bell, they still have a squad capable of beating the Kiwi’s. Nottinghamshire stars James Taylor and Alex Hales are joined by Yorkshire players Joe Root, Adil Rashid and Liam Plunkett. Hopefully these players will be granted the freedom to play with the same verve and style that they do for their counties.
There is no doubt New Zealand enter the series as favourites, over the past couple of years they have developed into one of the world’s leading one-day sides. They have a superb bowling unit and a batsmen who can make big scores in quick time. But England cannot afford to be conservative, they have to play aggressive if they are to beat this powerful Kiwi side.
With the summer weather finally here the conditions for the opening game will be perfect for big-hitting cricket which is just what the fans want to see. If England can get off to a good start at Edgbaston then anything can happen, New Zealand will be on the back foot and this young side will be full of belief. Let’s hope for a good start from Morgan and the rest of the boys!
