England rugby squad twickenham line up national anthem

Earlier this month Eddie Jones announced his provisional 45 man provisional Elite Player Squad for the Old Mutual Wealth Autumn Internationals; which featured the likes of Dylan Hartley, Maro Itoje, Chris Robshaw, James Haskell and Jonathan Joseph. With the Lions Tour of New Zealand coming up next summer everyone will be looking to impress in the hope of being selected.

There was a few surprise inclusions as Jones named 6 uncapped players in the squad; Mike Williams (Leicester Tigers) and Nathan Hughes (Wasps) are included for the first time while Josh Beaumont (Sale Sharks), Kyle Sinckler (Harlequins) and Ben Te’o (Worcester Warriors) have all previously been included in squads and have spent time with the team training.

England will be full of confidence heading into the first fixture against South Africa having beaten Australia 3-0 down under for the first time in history. However England have not beaten South Africa since 2006, a record that Dylan Hartley and the rest of the squad will look to put right on Saturday 12th November.

Although England are heading in the right direction under the guidance of Eddie Jones, the South Africa and Australia fixtures in particular will prove to be a real tough test for England.

FACT: Not one player included in the 45 man squad has ever been on a winning team against South Africa.

England are undefeated in 2016 and will look to continue their excellent form going into the Autumn Internationals.

The final squad will be announced on Friday 30th September 2016.
