England Rugby Team 2016 at Twickenham

England Head Coach Eddie Jones has said that he believes a minimum of 15 England players should be included in the Lions Squad for the tour on New Zealand in 2017. He also stated that he would be happy to see his assistants travel with the squad but that it is ultimately Warren Gatland’s decision.

“I would be disappointed if we did not get at least 15 players on the Lions tour and hopefully get one or two of our coaches on the coaching staff. That is ultimately Warren’s decision, but if we do a good job – particularly in the November Tests and Six Nations – then we should be rewarded with at least 15 spots.” – Jones told Sky Sports News.

The upcoming Old Mutual Wealth Series (Autumn Internationals) will provide a tough test for Eddie Jones’ men. England will look to get a positive result in their opening fixture against South Africa on 12th November and build up their momentum. With the home crowd at Twickenham and the high spirits in the camp this young England side will be more than confident of beating all four of the Southern Hemisphere sides.

England have been in impressive form since his arrival after the 2015 World Cup. In the summer tours Eddie Jones and his side created history as they secured their first ever series win Down Under – with a stunning 3-0 whitewash of the Wallabies. Those performances were some of the finest in the history of English Rugby and in-front of the home crowd Dylan Hartley and co. will be desperate to show they are one of the world’s best sides.

England’s sudden rise and improved form have not gone unnoticed. On September 13th the latest World Rankings were announced, England in January were 8th in the rankings but have risen 6 places sitting comfortably behind New Zealand in 2nd place.
