Chelsea FC v Liverpool FC

Chelsea’s crazy season gets worst just as Jurgen Klopp begins to get things right for Liverpool. The Reds piled the pressure on Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho with Klopp’s first Premier League win since taking charge at Anfield.

In front of their own supporters Chelsea made the perfect start when Ramires headed them into the lead after only three minutes but Philippe Coutinho equalised in first-half stoppage time then put Liverpool ahead with a shot that deflected off John Terry.

Former Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke came off the substitute’s bench to seal a deserved victory.

A bad blow for Mourinho after the earlier acrimonious loss at West Ham United and the Capital One Cup exit against Stoke City on penalties.

Will Roman Abramovich keep the faith with one of the greatest managers of the modern era?

Chelsea’s title win last season was built on the goals of Diego Costa, the midfield brilliance of Cesc Fabregas and the creative genius of Eden Hazard. But all three have gone AWOL this term while the years are catching up with Terry.

Liverpool kept pressing in the style their manager demands and in the end simply outran and outfought the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Klopp had words of comfort for Mourinho. “I feel for him. He’s a great coach. I don’t think anyone doubts he’s one of the best in the world. Things like this happen.”

Chelsea hospitality guests will be hoping their side can bounce back to form in the Champions League as the take on Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday 4th November.

Manchester United hospitality

Manchester United’s goal drought goes on, held to a draw at Crystal Palace.

Louis van Gaal’s team, criticised by legend Paul Scholes in midweek for playing unexciting football, had plenty of possession but created little.

It is the first time since 2005 that United have registered three successive goalless draws in all competitions. Manchester United hospitality guests will be hoping to see the Red Devils return to winning ways as they take on CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday 3rd November.

Arsenal hospitality

Arsenal kept up the pressure with a second-half smashing of Swansea City.

Olivier Giroud headed Arsenal in front soon after the restart, before Laurent Koscielny seized on an error by former Gunners goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski to double their lead. Joel Campbell struck on his first Premier League start to keep Arsenal, missing several key players because of injury, level on points with Manchester City, who have a superior goal difference.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger noted: “Swansea took six points off us last year and that shows we’ve moved forward. The second half we were a different team.

“After we scored the first goal, it was all us and there was only one winner on the pitch. Joel Campbell took his goal really well and he is still a young player who had to wait for his chance.

“He’s adapted to Europe, been in a few leagues and come back and I like his team spirit and work rate.”

Mourinho seething, Abramovich pondering, Wenger smug.
