Aegon Nottingham Classic - Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Murray and Tsonga through at French Open

Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfred Tsonga have both made it through to the quarter-finals of the French Open at Roland Garros. Tsonga will be one of the stars on show for Eventmasters tennis hospitality guests at the Aegon Open Nottingham ATP event.
Roared on by his home crowd Tsonga produced a brilliant display to beat fourth seed Thomas Berdych 6-3 6-2 6-7 (5-7) 6-3. The French superstar was confirmed as one of the star names for the Aegon Open Nottingham ATP event which runs from June 22-27. Tsonga takes on fifth seed Kei Nishikori later today in what promises to be a fantastic match.
British number one Andy Murray joined Tsonga in the last eight after a four-set victory over Jeremy Chardy. The victory extended Murray’s unbeaten run on clay to 14 games in 2015 and set up a game with seventh seed David Ferrer. It has now been five years since the Brit failed to reach the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam event, and he will be full of confidence given his recent run of form.
Elsewhere the line-up for the Birmingham Classic (June 15-21) has been hailed as the best in history of the tournament. The WTA event has attracted ten of the top 20 players in the world, with Simona Halep and defending champion Ana Ivanovic currently ranked inside the world’s top 10. Also confirmed to play at the Edgbaston Priory Club are Grand Slam winners Victoria Azarenka and Svetlana Kuznetsova.
The Aegon Classic Birmingham will form an integral part of the new British Grass Court season which will run in the three weeks between Roland Garros and The Championships, Wimbledon. The extended grass court season will enable some of the world’s elite players extra time to find their feet on grass and make the most of the very best grass-courts in the country.
Aegon Classic Birmingham Tournament Director, Patrick Hughesman, said: “We are delighted at the strength of the player field and are excited for the action to begin.
“To have Grand Slam winners, former world No.1 players and the defending champion on show will provide a fantastic spectacle for the fans and hopefully inspire people in the area to play tennis.”
