While the Bob Baffert-trained American Pharaoh has enjoyed a fairytale season and became the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win the Triple Crown, with three truly outstanding performances.
But both horses suffered shock defeats last time out and will be looking to use the $5 million Grade 1 contest to end the season.
O’Brien will also be looking for War Envoy to bounce back from a disappointing loss at the Curragh. At Royal Ascot in June, the three-year-old was guided to victory in the Britannia Stakes by the imperious Ryan Moore. He holds entries in both the Dirt Mile and Mile contests.
Waterloo Bridge who was a good winner of the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes will also head for Keeneland, has been entered in the in the Juvenile Turf and Juvenile Dirt.
Another star of Royal Ascot 2015 who will be heading Stateside is Time Test. The Roger Charlton-trained star produced an electrifying performance for guest enjoying Royal Ascot hospitality packages when he romped to victory in the Group 3 Tercentenary Stakes.
Charlton said: “I am very excited to have another Breeders’ Cup runner with a lively chance, and if he gets a good draw I think that he is capable of running very well.”
