Grand National Festival - Aintree Racecourse

Who could be 2019’s Grand National Runners?

A superb selection of runners have been touted to enter the Grand National in 2019. As the three-day meeting reaches its all-important climax on Saturday 6th April, all eyes will undoubtedly turn to the headline event of the festival.

We have been keeping an eye out and following all the latest rumours and speculation. With a maximum of 40 entrants available for the all-important Grand National Race, we highlight some of 2019’s potential runners:

Tiger Roll – Trainer: G Elliot
2018’s champion is set to once again grace the Aintree Racecourse in hope of another win. At only 8 years old he certainly has age on his side. If Tiger Roll is victorious in 2019 he will be the first horse since Red Rum in 1974 to gain a back to back win.
Pleasant Company – Trainer: W Mullins
Trained By the respected Willie Mullins Pleasant Company lost by a head to Tiger Roll in 2018. The year before the Bay Gelding achieved a 9th place finish. His experience of the course puts him in an enviable position for 2019.
One For Arthur – Trainer: L. Russell
Back with a bang! One For Arthur is reportedly making a comeback in 2019 after a year out due to injury. The 2017 Grand National winner will also be looking to duplicate Red Rum’s victory.
Ballyoptic – Trainer: N. Twiston-Davies
Ballyoptic is potentially set to embark on his first Grand National race in 2019. In the 2018 Scottish National Ballyoptic was a nose second, making him one to watch. Nigel Twiston-Davies yard have had previous success in 1998 and 2002, so will be hoping for a 2019 victory.
Rathvinden – Trainer: W. Mullins
Will Rathvinden bring Willie Mullins his second Grand National win in 2019? With a win at the Cheltenham Festival in the 4m race, he is certainly a contender.
Blaklion – Trainer: N. Twiston-Davies
With many recent Grand National appearances under his belt, the impressive Blakilion might be back to race again. 2018 saw Blaklion “fall at the first hurdle”, so there is no doubt his trainer will be hoping for more in 2019.
Baie Des Iles – Trainer: R. O’Sullivan
Despite finishing 12th in the 2018 Grand National she was well supported by the racegoers. At only 8 years old she is still a young horse, but there’s no doubt trainer R. O’Sullivan will be hoping for a Grand National win. Could 2019 be the year?
Childrens List – W.P Mullins
Another potential contender from the Willie Mullins camp. However, only lightly raced but there is plenty of scope for improvement. This type of horse will appeal to those that prefer an each way bet.
