Trainer David Barron is hoping Pearl Secret will get his preferred ground in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at the York Ebor Festival next Friday. The race will be one of the highlights of a fantastic week for Eventmasters guests enjoying the outstanding York Ebor hospitality packages inside the Dante Suite.
The six-year-old is very talented, but is most effective when he has some cut in the ground. He tasted victory in his first four career starts, but did not manage a breakthrough triumph at Group level until the Temple Stakes at Haydock in May.
Although Barron will let Pearl Secret take his chance regardless of ground conditions, he is hoping for some rain over the next week, saying “He acts well on soft, whereas it inconveniences several of his opponents, but he can also go on quick. “He is too old now to wait for his ideal going, we look for the right races and aim him at them. His big target is the Nunthorpe at York where ideally I would love the ground to be soft as it would give him a big chance. He has been pleasing me on the gallops.”
Royal Ascot winner Accapulco heads the market for the Nunthorpe at 9/4 while Pearl Secret is generally priced at 16/1.
With some of the world’s best sprinters on show the race will be a superb encounter for York Ebor hospitality packages guests. Please see our York Ebor hospitality packages page for more information.
