In 2016 the race was one of the most thrilling in recent memory as jumps trainer Nicky Henderson claimed his first Chester Cup as No Heretic got up on the line to deny Nakeeta in a photo-finish.

The second day of the May Festival features two superb Group 3 races with the MBNA Chester Vase the highlight of the afternoon. The race is a traditional trial for the Epsom Derby and see’s the seasons colts put their credentials to the test in front of a packed crowd.
The race has been dominated by Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien who has won seven of the last ten renewals, including the last four. Ruler of the World famously scored in the race in 2013 before going onto win the Derby at Epsom, in 2016 Derby favourite US Army Ranger just held on for victory.
A chance to see a potential Derby winner in action should not be missed on Ladies Day of the Chester May Festival 2018.
The final day of the meeting is known as City Day as the crowds return to Chester Racecourse, with a real party atmosphere created.
The superb May Festival finishes on a real high-note with the Group 3 Ormonde Stakes taking centre stage. This fantastic event has been won by some real superstars including St Nicholas Abbey, Harbinger and Brown Panther.
The 2016 renewal was claimed by Dartmouth, owned by Her Majesty The Queen and ridden by the world’s finest jockey, Ryan Moore.
