It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Royal Ascot

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Royal Ascot

Around 10am today is the start of Royal Ascot for many race goers visiting Ascot for the Royal five days of celebrations. Royal Ascot sees 300,000 race goers across the five days of celebrations, and a huge 509 horses running to get that top spot.

The five day royal celebrations begin today with The Queen Anne Stakes group one race at 14:30 starting off Royal Ascot 2019. This will be a one mile race with horses being four plus years old. Last year saw Accidental Agent take first place with Lord Glitters behind at second. Both horses are back this year in The Queen Ann Stakes, but Mustashry ridden by jockey Jim Crowley is the people’s favourite. Could the first race of Royal Ascot give jockey Jim Crowley his first win of the five day event at Ascot, which sees him ride in five of the races this week.

The Coventry Stakes is a big race for trainer Aidan O’Brien who has four of his horses running in the 15:05 race this afternoon. One of these being favourite Arizona, who won his last race at Curragh in May this year. Potentially one of O’Brien’s strongest contenders in the race.

The third race of the day is another group one race with a distance of five furlongs. Last year’s winner of the Kings Stand Stakes was Blue Point who is back to secure 2 consecutive wins in this race, but can second place Battaash take this year’s top spot, after being beaten last year near the finishing post. Now back for a second year Battaash is the favourite in the 15:40 race.

Too Darn Hot is making a start at the 16:20 The St James’s Palace Stakes this afternoon, with an impressive start within the first year of racing, Too Darn Hot is coming into the top two of all races. Last months ride at Curragh saw the horse in second place with first place Phoenix Of Spain starting in todays 16:20 race. Is Too Darn Hot ready to lead the pack in todays race or will it be a repeat of Curragh for both horses.

Coeur de Lion is back for The Ascot Stakes, running at 17:00. Last year saw the horse reach sixth place, but is the potential weather forecast at Ascot the winning strike here for Coeur de Lion whose better going is heavy to soft. Not ruling out Macini ridden by jockey Sousa, a back to back winner of Britain’s champion jockey. This horse tends to be a leader of the track and has the potential to take the lead at Ascot today. Not one of the favourites today at Ascot but the horse could be a potential game changer.

The Wolferton Rated Stakes begin at 17:35 ending the first day at Royal Ascot 2019. Definitely one to watch in this race would be Mountain Angel whose last win at Ascot in May 2018 saw a clear final furlong, finishing in top spot. Also taking a double win at Epsom last month. Can the weather be onside for Mountain Angel and secure a win with a soft going.

Let’s begin Royal Ascot with some winner!
