Katie Walsh set to ride Baie Des Iles in Grand National
Ross O’Sullivan looks to break new ground at Aintree as he targets Baie Des Iles as his first runner in the Grand National 2018 at Aintree, placing wife Katie Walsh at the helm.
The County Kildare handler certainly believes the 7-year-old Filly has what it takes to compete in the world’s greatest steeplechase after seeing her secure a 3rd-place finish in the Grand National 2018 Trial behind Folsom Blue at Punchestown earlier in the month.
“The weights came out a couple of weeks ago and she was given 10st 4lb,” said O’Sullivan. “She had a nice prep run in Punchestown, giving 12lb away to the winner and 10lb to the second horse.
“It’s fingers crossed – I’m really looking forward to it.”
While it will be the O’Sullivan’s first attempt at Aintree’s great race, his wife Katie will certainly bring some experience to the saddle, having ridden Baie Des Iles in her last ten starts.
Having gained plenty of experience around the Aintree fences, with a notable 3rd-place finish in the 2012 National, Walsh will be keen to make her mark at this year’s meeting.
Could it be eternal glory for O’Sullivan this year as he embarks on his first National Steeplechase? Only time will tell.
