At the time of writing, both of these nations occupy places in the top three teams in the world via the ICC Rankings, with England sat in third and India in second place.

India won the most recent Test Series to have taken place between these two countries from 25th January to 9th March 2024 to win the Anthony de Mello Trophy – a title given to the winner of a test series in India between these two countries.

England did win the first test in Hyderabad by a margin of 28 runs, however, India did emerge victorious in all of the remaining four tests to win. Their biggest margin of victory came in the third test in Rajkot, with the hosts winning by no less than 434 runs.

The most recent Test Series victory for England against India took place back in England from 1st August to 11th September 2018. It was a 4 – 1 win overall for the hosts, who as a result got their hands on the Pataudi Trophy, silverware handed to the winner of a test series between these two nations when facing each other in England.

The first test was held at Edgbaston, where a 31 run victory was secured to get the Series off to the best of starts. This triumph was then followed up with an emphatic inning and 159 run victory over India in the Second Test at Lord’s.

India claimed their sole victory by a margin of 203 runs in the Third Test in Nottingham, but England got revenge in the fourth test at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, winning by a margin of no less than 60 runs in the end.

England then did go on to seal an 118 run victory in the fifth and final test at the iconic Oval to bring to an end what had been an emphatic and triumphant Test Series against India for the hosts.

In Test Cricket, England has the edge over India regarding the head to head record, with England having recorded no less than 51 victories to date compared to India’s 35 as of the time of writing. There have been 50 draws between these two nations, most recently in India’s tour of England from 4th August 2021 to 5th July 2022. The last test was at Edgbaston, which England won by 7 wickets.
