The draw for the Fourth Round of the 2024/25 FA Cup saw Ruben Amorim and his Manchester United side drawn against fellow Premier League outfit Leicester City at Old Trafford in a tie set to take place at the Theatre Of Dreams in early February. As the current holders of this historic trophy, the Red Devils will be seeking to seal a win against the Foxes as they target a 14th FA Cup title and a second in as many years.
Leicester City are led by former Manchester United favourite Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who played for the club for 5 years between 2001 and 2006. The Dutchman made a total of no less than 219 appearances for the club, scoring a total of 150 goals for the club throughout his highly prolific spell at the club.
Van Nistelrooy took charge of United on an interim basis ahead of Amorim’s appointment, before being appointed Leicester City’s new Head Coach to succeed Steve Cooper in November 2024.
Ruben Amorim himself has been in sole charge of Manchester United as Head Coach since his time at the club officially began on 11th November 2024.
To reach the Fourth Round of the FA Cup, United had to face 14 time winners Arsenal, led by their Spanish Head Coach Mikel Arteta at the Emirates Stadium. It was a tight and competitive game between these two Premier League rivals, who in the end were level at 1 – 1 even after extra time following goals from Bruno Fernandes (52’) and central defender Gabriel (63’).
United secured their spot in the next round after winning the subsequent penalty shootout 5 – 3 in North London.
As for Van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City, their FA Cup Third Round tie saw them come face to face with EFL Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers at the King Power Stadium. It was an emphatic and ruthless performance from the foxes, who were able to beat the Rs 6 – 2 in the end, thanks to the goals from James Justin (8’, 63’), Stephy Mavididi (35’), Facundo Buonanotte (38’), Jamie Vardy (51’ – Penalty), and Wout Faes (90+3’). Meanwhile, the visitors scored through Jonathan Varane (18’) and Rayan Kolli (45+2’).
In the FA Cup overall, Manchester United and Leicester have met on three previous occasions in this highly historic and prestigious competition, with United winning two of them, whilst Leicester won the most recent tie between these two clubs back in March 2021.
The most recent win in the FA Cup for the Red Devils against the Foxes was in the Fifth Round of the competition all the way back on 14th February 1976, when United were able to go on and successfully emerge as 2 – 1 winners at Filbert Street. Goals for United that day came thanks to Lou Macari and Gerry Daly. It was Bob Lee who scored for the Foxes that day.
There is no better way to watch this 2024/25 FA Cup Fourth Round tie between Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United and Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City at Old Trafford than with an Eventmasters Hospitality Package.
