One of our flagship events is the Annual Midlands Christmas Sporting Luncheon which continues to sell out each year and in 2025 takes place on Wednesday 10th December. It creates a wonderful festive atmosphere for all guests to enjoy. Limited availability.
The event has a history of attracting the very biggest names in Rugby, including our Guest Of Honour for 2025 – former England and British and Irish Lions international Dan Cole.
With 118 caps, Cole is the second most capped player ever for England, whilst he also participated in tours of Australia and New Zealand, which saw him earn his 3 caps for the British and Irish Lions.
He is also an icon for the Leicester Tigers, for whom he was able to make as many as 343 senior appearances between 2007 and 2025. Dan Cole only recently retired, doing so following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
At Eventmasters, we are delighted to announce that our comedian for the 2025 Sporting Luncheon will be the highly acclaimed Andrew Bird.
Bird was winner of the Comic’s Comic “Best Act” at the UK Comedy Awards in 2023. He has also supported a number of the UK’s much loved comedians on tour, including Russell Howard at Bristol’s Ashton Gate Football stadium, plus a further six shows at The London Palladium.
He has opened for Rhod Gilbert, Rob Brydon, America’s Brian Regan, and Michelle Wolfe on a number of their London shows, and he warmed up the Michael McIntyre audience on an entire arena tour, including Wembley and the O2.

Sporting Lunch VIP Hospitality Packages – Midlands Sporting Lunch returns for 35th year in 2025
On Wednesday 10th December 2025, the highly rated Midlands Sporting Luncheon will enjoy its 35th anniversary. The rugby-themed Christmas sporting lunch continues to be one of the most popular events of the hospitality calendar and regularly attracts the biggest names in the sport.
Whether you are hosting a Christmas party or entertaining your important clients and stakeholders, this event will surely provide you with an unforgettable afternoon.
The sporting luncheon takes place at the fabulous Macdonald Burlington Hotel in the centre of Birmingham. This historic venue is one of Birmingham’s finest hotels and is just a short walk away from the stunning New Street Station.
Enjoy fine dining with a superb four-course lunch, followed by our brilliant Heads or Tails auction game and a silent auction with proceeds going to a nominated charity. But the real highlight of the event is the outstanding guest speakers and guests of honour.
Our Guest Of Honour for 2025 will be former English international and British and Irish Lion Dan Cole, who only recently retired following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
Cole is a legendary figure for club and country. For the Leicester Tigers, he made no less than 343 appearances between 2007 and 2025, winning no less than 4 Premiership titles – doing so in 2009, 2010, 2013, and 2022.
With England, he is the player with the second most caps of all time with 118 – only Ben Youngs (127) has more. Not only that, he was part of a squad that won a total of 3 Six Nations Championships, doing so back in 2011, 2016, and 2017. In 2016, Dan Cole and England secured the Grand Slam.
He was also part of the side who were World Cup runners-up in 2019. Cole’s three caps for the British and Irish Lions came in tours of Australia and New Zealand.

Bird is also a very successful comedy writer and has provided material for TV including shows 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Pointless, Have I Got News for You, Ask Rhod Gilbert, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Room 101, The Jonathan Ross Show, Mrs Browns Boys, Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, Taskmaster, The Wheel, Not Going Out and The Russell Howard Hour.
He is now making a name for himself on the comedy circuit, he has appeared at a number of Festivals, including the Edinburgh Fringe, and we are delighted to have secured his services this year.
Our 2022 Sporting Luncheon was attended by Irish Rugby legend Brian O’Discroll holding the Six Nations record for most tries scored , with 26, whilst also achieving the record for most Heineken Cup tries for an Irishmen, all guests enjoyed hearing about his journey to victory at our 2022 Midlands Sporting Luncheon.
In 2021, we welcomed England Rugby legend and former Sale Sharks player Jason Robinson OBE to our Christmas Sporting Luncheon. Robinson was a key part of the Sharks’ Premiership winning side in 2006 and has won over 50 international caps!
In 2019, former England Rugby Captain and Northampton Saints hooker Dylan Hartley was our guest of honour. His past exploits excited the sell-out crowds as he delved into his controversial encounters with referees and the action off of the pitch with other Rugby legends and stars.
In 2018, we were delighted to announce our guest of honour, Mike Tindall MBE, Rugby World Cup winner and husband of the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Phillips. Tindall’s take on the current England side and their chances in the 2019 World Cup in Japan were particularly fascinating.
2025 Guest of Honour Dan Cole joins an illustrious list of former guests, which also includes; Alun Wyn Jones OBE, Jason Robinson OBE, Dylan Hartley, Mike Tindall OBE, Phil Vickery MBE, Jason Leonard OBE, Will Greenwood MBE, Ben Kay MBE, Will Carling OBE, Gavin Hastings OBE, Ieuan Evans, Rob Andrew MBE, Dean Richards, Jeremy Guscott, Sir Ian McGeechan and World Cup-winning captain Martin Johnson CBE.

Live Screenings of the biggest sporting events of the yearÂ
As well as running sporting luncheons, Eventmasters are also delighted to provide a fabulous range of live screenings for big sporting events. Recently we have hosted several live screenings of major England football matches.
For the 2016 European Championships, we hosted a live screening of England’s hotly-anticipated group clash with Wales. We enjoyed the company of Gary Newbon along with Neville Southall MBE and Ron Atkinson, for a wonderful afternoon’s entertainment. During the 2014 World Cup, we also hosted a screening of England’s match with Costa Rica.
In 2018, we hosted a live screening of England’s thrilling encounter with Belgium in the 2018 World Cup. Hosted at the Holiday Inn, Birmingham City Centre, the event delivered a fabulous afternoon of entertainment coupled with a delicious fine dining experience.
With highly renowned guest speakers from the world of football and fine dining, you can enjoy VIP treatment to go along with the action.
