Since the first running, the festival has grown into one of the major Derby trials of the season, with trainers keen to test the credentials of their best colts at York Racecourse. Ten horses have completed the Dante Stakes and Epsom Derby doubles, with the first coming in 1960 with St Paddy.

The last horse to take the Dante Stakes and Epsom Derby was Golden Horn, who completed the double in 2015 on York Racecourse. The John Gosden trained colt took the Dante in breath-taking fashion before following up in a similar style at Epsom.
After his victories at York Racecourse and Epsom, Golden Horn became the first horse in history to win The Dante, The Derby and Coral Eclipse in the same season – cementing his status as one of the finest colts of his generation at the festival.
Such is the quality of the Dante Stakes that horses such as Jack Hobbs (runner-up Dante Stakes 2015) and The Grey Gatsby (2014 Dante Stakes winner) went on to claim the Irish Derby and French Derby, respectively.
The York Dante Festival also features several other high-class Group races, including the Yorkshire Cup (British Champions Series), Musidora Stakes and the Duke of York Clipper Logistics Stakes. All provide thrilling action during the Festival at York Racecourse.
