Royal St George’s Golf Club

An Open Championship Golf Tournament Venue

Located in the historic seaside town of Sandwich, Royal St George’s is considered one of the most stunning golf courses in the UK. Overlooking the Kent coastline, you are sure to be captured by the surrounding scenes of natural beauty.

But don’t let this splendour fool you! The course should not be underestimated when it comes to its ambition. With a legion of blind shots and deep bunkers, the landscape remains a challenge for both amateurs and professionals alike.

Royal St George’s first hosted The Open back in 1894, which was also the first time that golf pioneer, John Henry Taylor, won the championship.

The course hosted the 149th Open Championship in 2021, which was the 15th time the venue has hosted the tournament. With Open tickets, fans were able to watch some of the best golfers in the world compete while also enjoying the Open hospitality experience.

Colin Morikowa won The Open 2021 as he shot a scintillating bogey-free final round to clinch the Claret Jug. He wrestled for the lead with three birdies to finish the front line while holding off the charging Jordon Speith to win by 2 strokes on the Kent coast. Through his success, he became the first man to win two different majors on debut!

More about Royal St George’s

Since the course was founded in 1887, it has gone through several modifications in order to alleviate some of the more difficult shots, making it fairer for players.

The course was used as inspiration for the James Bond novel, ‘Goldfinger’ and was renamed ‘Royal St Mark’s’.
