The Belfry Hotel & Resort
Home to Betfred British Masters Golf 2026
The Belfry Hotel & Resort has become synonymous with golf, having hosted the Ryder Cup four times, far more than any other sports venue in the world. With courses formed from 550 acres of North Warwickshire’s lovely landscape, the Brabazon and the PGA National golf links near Sutton Coldfield have produced some of the most dramatic events in golf history.
The PGA moved to its new home at The Belfry Hotel in 1977 on a 99-year lease. The Belfry’s first official competition was contested in 1978 between Great Britain and the Continent of Europe for the Hennessy Cup.
Seve Ballesteros helped the course reach new heights in its first official tournament. He reached for his driver and launched the ball into orbit, stunning the crowds and course designers! It was a great stroke since the ball soared through the trees, eventually landing eight feet from home. Ballesteros’s accomplishments that day in Sutton Coldfield became a part of The Belfry Hotel’s history.
For its unrivalled quality and layout, the Brabazon has been named England’s Best Golf Course and obtained the title of Europe’s Best Golf Course in 2021. The Brabazon was also upgraded with the latest technology to make it more competitive before the Betfred British Masters 2021. The modifications added new fourth tees, enhancing the golfing experience while keeping the course at par 72.

History
The Belfry Hotel and Resort date back to the thirteenth century, known as Moxhull Hall or Manor, and operated as Knights Templar manor until they were expelled from England in 1277. For the PGA, the National golf course is their only course in England recognised as a world-class championship venue. This course offers a competitive challenge with rushing fairways, significant run-offs, and 70 strategically positioned bunkers for those who compete in Sutton Coldfield. In addition, the Belfry Driving Range and PGA Academy provides an opportunity to learn from the best and experience Belfry’s golf coaching facilities. Please note that the range closes at 9 p.m. as the last balls are 45 minutes before the end of the day.
The Betfred British Masters returned to The Belfry in 2025 for more enthralling action. Whilst the 2025 winner is yet to be confirmed, Denmark’s Niklas Norgaard came out on top as the winner at 16 under par back in 2024. The iconic tournament is set to return to The Belfry in 2026, with the venue having hosted a plethora of European Tour events since 1979.
The 1967 British Masters event was particularly notable for providing British television with its first live hole in one, as Tony Jacklin aced the 16th hole at Royal St George’s.
Earlier during the British Masters 2021, the Brabazon underwent several stages to update it with new technologies and make it more challenging. The update introduced additional fourth tees to improve the golf experience while remaining a par 72 course. As a result, the course was also awarded England’s Best Golf Course and Europe’s Best Golf Course at the World Golf Awards 2021.
Betfred, the UK-based bookmakers, will be the title sponsor of this golf tournament for a fourth consecutive year.
