Vitality Stadium History
The history of Dean Court, known as the Vitality Stadium for sponsorship reasons, opened all the way back in 1910. The birth of the ground began when the Cooper-Dean family provided some land for the club, then known as Boscombe, and the stadium was named after them. The Cherries could not start the 1910/11 season there with construction incomplete, so they played some league matches at King’s Park before moving permanently to Dean Court in December 1910.
Since 2001, Dean Court has had a number of different names, including the Fitness First Stadium, the Seward Stadium, and the Goldsands Stadium, before it finally became known as it is today, the Vitality Stadium back in 2015. The Vitality Stadium has been their home for more then 100 years, and the club are planning to expand their home on the South Coash of England in the near future.
Whilst the Cherries are not a club that has won as much silverware as other clubs in the Premier League, they very much have an incredible history nonetheless.
After almost going bankrupt and getting relegated from League Two back in April 2009, the Vitality Stadium has seen the club go on an incredible journey through the football pyramid, all the way to the Premier League, which they managed to reach for the first time in 2015, following promotion and a title win in the second tier in the season before. Eddie Howe was one of the key figures of their rise, and he is the manager that brought them to the top flight ahead of the 2015/16 season.
Bournemouth have still managed to get their hands on some silverware, which includes 1 EFL Championship title (2014/15), 1 Third Division title (1986/87), 1 Football League Trophy/Associate Members Cup (1983/84), and finally 1 Third Division South Cup back in the 1945/46 season.
Structure and Facilities
The capacity of this stadium is 11,286 and it is a ground that consists of four stands, which are the Vitality East Stand, the Ted McDougall Stand, the Vitality Main Stand, as well as the Vitality Steve Fletcher Stand.
Vitality East Stand
As the name implies, the Vitality East Stand is located on the eastern side of the ground and it is where the away fans will be situated for each game and it has a capacity of from 1,500 to 2,000 people. It was renovated in 1936 when roofing was added and then it was further enhanced back in 2001 as part of the wider renovations that were taking place at the stadium.
Ted MacDougall Stand
As for the Ted MacDougall stand, it began life when the ground had just three sides following its 2001 renovations, with temporary seats in place before a temporary stand was then built in the 2010/11 season, but it was promptly removed during the 2011/12 season. It was in 2013 that the stand as it is today was built, with the 2,400 capacity South Stand becoming known as the Ted MacDougall stand in July 2013. It was named after former Cherries striker Ted MacDougall, who played for the club in two spells – the first was for 3 years between 1969 and 1972, whilst his second spell spanned two years between 1978 and 1980.
Vitality Main Stand
The Main Stand is going to go through some extensive renovations to significantly increase the Vitality Stadium’s capacity, and it is where you can find our two Hospitality facilities, the Cherry Orchard, as well as the Executive Boxes. It has a capacity of approximately 3,200 seats. The matchday fanzone is located in close proximity to this stand, whilst this part of the ground is also home to the club’s official superstore.
Vitality Steve Fletcher Stand
The Vitality Steve Fletcher Stand is named after former club favourite Steve Fletcher, who played for the club over two spells – his first took place over 15 years between 1992 and 2007, before he then returned for a 4 year spell between 2009 and 2013. He scored the winning goal in a 2 – 1 triumph against Grimsby Town that saved his side from relegation and possible extinction back on Saturday 25th April 2009.
This stand has a capacity of approximately 2,400 seats for spectators, and it houses the pre-match food kiosk, and it is located in close proximity to the matchday fanzone and the Bournemouth Superstore as well.
Vitality Stadium Facilities
The Vitality Stadium began hosting Bournemouth matches in November 1910, and it has evolved dramatically over the years, and it is soon to go through some further extensive renovations in the very near future which will significantly increase it’s capacity which can only be very good news for the future of the football club. Before its latest renovations, it currently has a capacity of 11,286.
Every stand will offer food and drink on a match day, including a kiosk that is located in the Vitality Steve Fletcher Stand. This is a stadium that despite its smaller size compared to other Premier League grounds, it is more than capable of an incredible atmosphere on a matchday.
Gates open to supporters 90 minutes before kick-off, and there will be more food and drink on offer at half time. Please note that payment within the ground is cashless, which means contactless payment, like Apple Pay and Google Wallet, are accepted.
There is of course also spectacular VIP Hospitality for fans to enjoy so that they can watch the enthralling action unfold in front of them on the pitch in some style at the Vitality Stadium throughout the 2025/26 season.
At Eventmasters Corporate Hospitality, we offer two luxurious Hospitality Packages, which are the Cherry Orchard and Executive Boxes packages that are both situated in the Vitality Main Stand. Both offer extraordinary views of the pitch, as well as a selection of fine local and French cheeses, chutney, and savoury biscuits, Sky TV, and a dedicated waiting service.
