Wimbledon 2023 was enthralling and produced several surprises and memorable moments that all those in attendance will remember for years to come. For example, the Men’s Singles Final produced a moment that made history – Novak Djokovic had been dominant in recent years, winning the singles title in 6 of the last eight years. The Serbian did come up against number 1 Carlos Alcaraz, who produced a performance to remember to beat Djokovic in five sets (1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6 & 6-4).
This was not only Alcaraz’s first Wimbledon title; the Spaniard is the first person not named Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic or Andy Murray to win the Men’s Singles title since 2002.
Markéta Vondroušová won the Women’s Singles title, which was also a historic moment for the Wimbledon Championships. The Czech became the first ever unseeded player to win the Women’s Singles title, beating number 6 seed Ons Jabeur 6 – 4, 6 – 4 in one of the biggest shocks in Wimbledon’s history.
Wesley Koolhof & Neal Skupski beat Horacio Zeballos & Marcel Granollers 6 – 4, 6 – 4 to win the Men’s Doubles title. As for the Women’s Doubles title, Barbora Strýcová & Hsieh Su-wei won after an exciting match that saw them beat Elise Mertens and Storm Sanders 5 – 7, 4 – 6. Finally, the 2023 Mixed Doubles Final saw Mate Pavić and Lyudmyla Kichenok victorious against Xu Yifan and Joran Vliegen.
The 2024 Wimbledon Championships were also enthralling, and the winner has not been crowned for the Men’s and Women’s Singles and Doubles as of the time of writing.
Some shock results did take place over the course of the most recent Championship. One such moment happened when Marketa Vondrousova, the reigning Wimbledon Champion, was defeated in the first round 6 – 4, 6 – 2 against Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, in what was Maneiro’s first Grand Slam victory. This was the first time since 1984 that the defending champion had been knocked out at this stage of the competition.
There was also a historic moment, as the 2024 Wimbledon Championship saw Great Britain’s Andy Murray take part in his final ever match in the first round of the Men’s Doubles, when he and his brother Jamie Murray were knocked out by being defeated by 7(8) – 6(6), 6 – 4 by Australia’s John Peers and Rinky Hijikata. Murray is set to retire from the sport following the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Andy Murray is a two time Wimbledon singles Champion, having beaten Novak Djokovic and Milos Raonic in the 2013 and 2016 Finals respectively. The Brit retires as a legend of the sport.
Wimbledon tickets are available for each day of the 2025 Championships. Debenture Tickets are inclusive of Members Lounge passes, providing exclusive access to member’s bars and restaurants specific to the Debenture Tickets purchased.
