Known as the ‘Princess of Pop’, Kylie has also won two Grammy Awards, four BRIT Awards, and eighteen ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Music Awards.
On the popular music streaming platform Spotify, Kylie Minogue has more than 12.87 million monthly listens. Her most popular song on there at the moment is 2001’s ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ with more than 588,150,640 listens per month, followed by Padam Padam (166,220,589), In Your Eyes (91,586,726), and Love At First Sight (72,317,769).

Kylie Minogue’s career began in the world of acting, being cast in a role in the 1979 soap opera ‘The Sullivans’ at the age of 10. Roles in Skyways (1980) and The Henderson Kids (1985 – 1987) followed before she was cast in the hit show Neighbours in 1986 as Charlene Mitchell, which saw her gain popularity in the United Kingdom, as well as at home.
Her debut single ‘Locomotion’ came out in Australia on 13th July 1987, and it went on to become the best selling single of the decade in the country, and its popularity led to her beginning work in London with acclaimed producers Stock Aitken Waterman in September of that year.
The song ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ was then recorded, and it went on to peak at number one in the charts in countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Finland, Hong Kong, Israel, and Switzerland. The song also formed part of Minogue’s debut album ‘Kylie’ in 1988, which also included ‘Got To Be Certain’, ‘The Loco-Motion’, ‘Je ne sais pas pourquoi’, It’s No Secret’, and ‘Turn It Into Love’.
‘Kylie’ did peak at the summit of the UK Albums Chart, as well as reaching 1st spot in the UK Independent Albums Chart. The album also reached number one in New Zealand, and it got to number 2 in Australia. It spent more than a year in the UK Albums Chart, and it also went on to become the best selling album by a female artists of the 1980s.
Just a year later, Kylie Minogue unveiled her second studio album following the immense success of her first. The album was called ‘Enjoy Yourself’, and it came out in October 1989, managing to reach number one in the UK. Two of the singles on the album, ‘Hand on Your Heart’ and ‘Tears on My Pillow’ both peaked at number one in the singles chart in the United Kingdom.
November 1990 saw the release of her third album ‘Rhythm of Love’, and the songs ‘Better the Devil You Know’, ‘Step Back in Time’, and ‘Shocked’ all entered the top ten in the UK, as they also did in Kylie’s native country of Australia.
This was a busy time for Minogue in producing music, and she went on to release her fourth studio album, ‘Let’s Get To It’ in October 1991, peaking at 15 in the United Kingdom. A ‘Greatest Hits’ album then followed in August 1992, and it was a huge success for Kylie, with it reaching the number one spot in the UK, as well as third place in Australia.
Album number five ‘Kylie Minogue’ reached as high as number four in the UK following its release in September 1994. ‘Confide in Me’, a single from this album, spent four weeks at the number one spot in Australia, and it peaked at number two in the UK.
During the 1990s, Minogue did make a guest appearance in the popular British Comedy Series ‘The Vicar of Dibley’, whilst also having parts in films such as Street Fighter (1994), Hayride to Hell (1995), Bio-Dome (1996), and Diana & Me (1997).
On 22nd October 1997, Kylie Minogue released her sixth studio album ‘Impossible Princess’, with songs on it including ‘Some Kind of Bliss’, ‘Did It Again’, ‘Breathe’, and ‘Cowboy Style’. It peaked at 3rd in the UK Independent Albums chart, as well as at 5th in the UK Albums Chart. It also peaked at number 3 in Australia.
Following a collaboration with the Pet Shop Boys on their 1999 album ‘Nightlife’ and a role in William Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’, the turn of the century saw Kylie release the album ‘Light Years’ in 2000. This was a massive commercial success for the singer, with it peaking as high as number two in the UK, as well as reaching the summit of the Australian Charts.
The single ‘Spinning Around’ made its debut at the top of the UK Charts in July of that year, which saw her become only the second artist after Madonna to have a number one single in three consecutive decades.
In September 2001 her hit single ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’ was released, and it became the lead single of her eighth studio album ‘Fever’, selling no less than five million copies, as well as reaching the number one spot in the charts of more than forty countries. Fever also saw her win her first BRIT Awards for International Female Solo Artist and Best International Album.
In 2003 ‘Love at First Sight’ saw Kylie Minogue receive her first Grammy nomination for ‘Best Dance Recording’, before going on to win the award for ‘Come Into My World’ in 2004. November 2003 also saw ‘Body Language’ get released as Minogue’s ninth studio album, peaking at sixth in the United Kingdom, with one of the singles ‘Slow’, peaking at number one in the United Kingdom and Australia.
Fast forward to 2007, which was the year that saw the singer release her tenth studio album ‘X’, four years after ‘Love at First Sight’. ‘X’ was nominated for the Brit Award for Best International Album, as well as for a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album. It also debuted at number one in the Australian Charts, as well as at number four in the UK’s Albums Chart. Singles included ‘2 Hearts’, ‘In My Arms’, ‘Wow’, ‘All I See’, and ‘The One’.
Her eleventh studio album ‘Aphrodite’ came out in July 2010, with one of the singles on it, ‘All My Lovers’ peaking at number three in the United Kingdom. Her ‘Aphrodite: Les Folies Tour’ then followed in February 2011 which grossed US$60 million, with concerts taking place across the continents of Europe, North America, Asia, Australia, and Africa.
To commemorate her 25th anniversary as a music artist, Kylie Minogue went on a tour, the ‘Anti Tour’ of England and Australia, whilst also releasing her greatest hits album ‘The Best of Kylie Minogue’ in June 2012.
‘Kiss Me Once’, her twelfth studio album, was released two years later in March 2014, which contained songs where Minogue has collaborated with other artists such as Sia, Pharrell Williams, and Enrique Iglesias. This album managed to peak at number one in Australia and at number two in the UK.
November 2015 witnessed the release of her next studio album, and her first with a Christmas theme – ‘Kylie Christmas’. It also features Dannii Minogue and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
The album ‘Golden’ then followed a few years later in April 2018, peaking at number one in both the United Kingdom and Australia. ‘Dancing’ was the leading single of her fourteenth studio album. The song itself became the artist’s 51sttop forty charting song and was certified gold in Australia and silver in the UK.
In 2019, the greatest hits album ‘Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection’ was released, and she also embarked on her Summer 2019 tour, which saw Kylie perform at the iconic Glastonbury Festival for the very first time.
The album ‘Disco’ was released to the world on 6th December 2020, which was recorded throughout the pandemic, and it made her the first female artist to ever have a number one album in five consecutive decades, from the 1980s to the 2020s.
Three years later, Kylie Minogue’s critically acclaimed sixteenth studio album ‘Tension’ came out on 22nd September 2023 and it debuted at number one in both the United Kingdom and Australia. ‘Padam Padam’ got to the top ten of the UK’s Charts, which saw her make history as the first female artist to have a top ten entry in the UK in five decades (1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s).
Her latest album, ‘Tension II’ is set for release on 18th October 2024, with the lead single on it being ‘Lights Camera Action’. Minogue has also collaborated with the likes of The Blessed Madonna, Diplo, Tove Lo, Orville Peck, Bebe Rexha, and Sia.
