The Amgen Irish Open has a tremendous history, and this famous tournament was founded all the way back in 1927, known then simply as the Irish Open. Its first sponsorship came in 1975, and it was then known as the Carroll’s Irish Open until its name was changed again thanks to a new sponsor, this time in the form of Murphy’s in 1994, which lasted until 2002.

Car manufacturer Nissan then became the sponsor of the Irish Open between 2003 and 2006. The next major sponsorship of this illustrious tournament came in 2015 with Dubai Duty Free, before it was then known as the Horizon Irish Open from 2022 to 2023. 2024 was Amgen’s first year as title sponsor.

The first ever winner of the Irish Open was Scotland’s George Duncan, who did so after fending off competition from runner-up Henry Cotton by a margin of just one stroke. This was Duncan’s first and final victory in this tournament.

Fast forward to 2023, and the winner of the Amgen Irish Open that year was Swedish player Vincent Norrman, who, just like George Duncan had almost 100 years before, won by a margin of just 1 stroke. The runner-up last year was Germany’s Hurly Long.

The most recent Irish Open took place in 2024, and it was Rasmus Hojgaard who emerged victories at 9 under par by the tournament’s end. Rory McIlroy came a very close second on 8 under par, with the Northern Irishman coming tantalisingly close to victory.

There have been some big names in the past who have emerged victorious in the Irish Open. This includes the likes of Colin Montgomerie (1996, 1997 & 2001), Bernhard Langer (1984, 1987 & 1994), Nick Faldo (1991, 1992 & 1993) and Seve Ballesteros (1983, 1985 & 1986). The three players just mentioned also hold the joint record for the most wins for a player at the Irish Open with no less than 3 each.

As of the time of writing, Nick Faldo is the only player to have won the Amgen Irish Open in three consecutive years.

Founded in 1991, The K Club in County Kildare in Ireland will host this tournament for the second time in three years in 2025.

The K Club has two golf courses, and it was Arnold Palmer who designed them both. The Palmer North Course famously hosted the 2006 Ryder Cup, which was the first to ever be hosted in Ireland. This course was also host of the European Open and the European Tour from 1995 to 2003, and again in 2005. It also famously hosted the 2016 edition of the Irish Open, which was won by Rory McIlroy.

Our Amgen Irish Open Hospitality offers you and your guests and clients the chance to not only enjoy some world class golf, but also some top class hospitality that will, without a doubt, make the experience absolutely unforgettable.
