The dates in September were added shortly after the announcement of the tour itself due to the sheer amount of demand for tickets from fans across the world.
They have long been one of the biggest and most famous British bands, and to date, they have released nine Studio Albums, all of which have proven very popular across the world, particularly in the UK. They currently have the incredible record of seeing every single one of their Studio Albums reach number one in the UK’s Official Albums Chart, collectively spending 19 weeks at the summit.
‘Moon Music’ is their tenth studio album, released on 4th October 2024.
They have topped the singles chart in the UK twice, with a further 19 having sat in the top ten in the Official Chart for the United Kingdom.
Coldplay has also been incredibly popular in the world of music streaming. On Spotify alone, the band currently enjoys more than 87.4 million listens per month on the platform. In terms of their songs on Spotify, it is ‘Something Just Like This’ that currently stands out as having the most monthly listens with more than 2.79 million. It is closely followed by ‘Yellow’ (2.53 million) and Viva La Vida (2.32 million).
Members of Coldplay at present include Chris Martin (Vocalist & Pianist), Jonny Buckland (Guitarist), Guy Berryman (Bassist), and Will Champion (Drummer & Percussionist), with Phil Harvey as their Manager.
Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland were the first two members of the band, meeting at University College in London back in September 1996, where they began to write songs together early on in 1997. Guy Berryman soon joined, before Will Champion completed the band’s line-up in January 1998.
Their first EP (Extended Play), named ‘Safety’, was financed by Phil Harvey, who has been Martin’s lifelong friend. A year later, Coldplay’s debut single was ‘Brothers & Sisters, released on 26th April 1999. It was able to peak at 92 in the UK Singles Chart, whilst it peaked as high as 20th in the UK’s Indie Chart.
Later that year, Coldplay made their debut at the highly prestigious Glastonbury Festival, where they performed on stage in the New Bands Tent.
Their single ‘Yellow’ was their first massive hit. It was released back on 26th June 2000, reaching number four in the UK’s Singles Chart, making it the first Coldplay song to reach the top five.
Coldplay then went on to release their debut studio album ‘Parachutes’ on 10th July 2000. ‘Shiver’ was the lead song on that album, and it was their first single to reach the top 40 in the UK Charts. June 2000 saw them embark on their first headlining tour, which included a return to Glastonbury for the band. ‘Parachutes’ went on to be nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in September 2000.
Their second album, ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’ was released on 26th August 2002. The singles that formed this album included ‘In My Place’, ‘God Put a Smile Upon Your Face’, ‘The Scientist’, ‘Clocks’, and ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’. The album itself topped the UK’s Album Chart on release, and more than 17 million copies have since been sold across the world.
Then came X&Y, their third studio album, released back on 6th June 2005, including songs such as ‘Gravity’, ‘Proof’, ‘Things I Don’t Understand’, ‘Talk’, and ‘Fix You’. It reached number one in the UK and in 31 other countries, and it went on to sell 8.3 million copies worldwide to become 2005’s best selling album. It was their first album to reach the top of the Billboard 200 chart in the United States.
Studio album number four for Coldplay was Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends from 2008. Songs included ‘Viva la Vida’, ‘Violet Hill’, ‘Strawberry Swing’, and ‘Death and all his friends’. The aforementioned ‘Viva la Vida’ was their first to reach number one in both the United Kingdom and the United States.
Several albums then followed; Mylo Xyloto (2011), Ghost Stories (2014), A Head Full of Dreams (2015), and their most recent album ‘Music of the Spheres’ in 2021, which inspired the name of their upcoming 2025 tour.
Songs to be released across these studio albums included ‘Hurts Like Heaven’, ‘Paradise’, ‘Charlie Brown’, ‘A sky full of stars’, ‘Magic’, ‘A Head Full Of Dreams’, ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’, ‘Orphans’, ‘Champion of the World’, ‘Everyday Life’, ‘Higher Power’, ‘Let Somebody Go’, and ‘Human Heart’.
Their first tour ‘Parachutes’ took place from 2000 to 2001, with the band performing in 131 shows. The Rush of blood to the head tour came in 2002, with it ending in 2003 after they had performed in 151 shows.
Then came the Twisted Logic Tour from 2005 to 2007, seeing a collective attendance of 2.05 million with 139 shows taking place across these two years. Just a year after this tour came to an end, Coldplay then embarked on their Viva la Vida Tour from 2008 to 2010, with 3.02 million attending across their 166 shows across the world.
To celebrate the release of Mylo Xyloto, the band went on a tour of the same name between 2011 and 2012 with 76 shows and an audience of 2.10 million overall. The Ghost Stories tour of 2014 saw 9 shows taking place.
A collective audience of 5.38 million people were there to witness the 122 shows performed between 2016 and 2017 as part of Coldplay’s ‘A Head Full of Dreams Tour’.
