England v Australia Hospitality – One Day International 2024 – Headingley Stadium Packages

A rivalry is set to be renewed when England go head to head with Australia in the second One Day International (ODI) at Headingley on Saturday, 21st September 2024. The Three Lions will be looking for victory and to gather momentum going into the final three ODIs.

The first-ever meeting between these two countries came in a Test Match Series that ran from 15th March to 4th April 1877. The winner of the first Test (15th – 19th March) was Australia, who won by a margin of 45 runs. As for the second and final Test of that series (31st March – 4th April), England emerged victorious on this occasion, winning by four wickets. The series ended at 1 – 1.

England and Australia competed in the most recent Ashes series in 2023, where Australia retained the Ashes. However, England were able to come away with their heads held high after levelling the series at 2-2 in the final Test at The Oval.

The first ever One Day International series between these two countries occurred in Australia in 1971. Australia won the first-ever ODI between the rivals, winning 1 – 0.

One of the most memorable ODI moments between England and Australia came back on 10th June 2017, courtesy of Ben Stokes. England were potentially going to lose their final Champions Trophy group match, slipping to 35 for 3 and chasing 280. Stokes then led the way to a change in fortunes for England – he scored 13 fours and two sixes and ended up 102 not out. This was the third and final ODI century of his career.

The most recent occasion in which these two nations faced each other in an ODI series came in November 2022, when Australia won 3-0. England’s most recent ODI victory against Australia was in 2018. The opening ODI saw England win by three wickets before they won the second by 38 runs. This was followed up by a 242-run victory in the third ODI. The fourth and fifth ODIs saw England win by six wickets and one wicket, respectively.

Jos Butler is the current One Day International Captain for England. Eoin Morgan has the record for the most runs for England in an ODI with 6,957 from 7,409 balls from 2009 to 2022. Joe Root comes second with 6,207 runs from 7,140 balls between 2013 and 2022.
