Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will be going head to head with a Nottingham Forest side led by their Portuguese Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo at the iconic Emirates Stadium in the heart of North London during the 2025/26 Premier League season. Victory for Arsenal would be crucial as they look to dethrone Liverpool and win the title this season, whilst they will be facing a Forest side high on confidence following their stellar performance in the English Top Flight last term.
This game promises to be enthralling and highly competitive and it will be a big game for both sides as they look to realise their respective ambitions for the season. This contest will also bring with it a brilliant atmosphere which will make the occasion even better.
The Gunners have been transformed ever since Mikel Arteta took charge of the club back in October 2019, when he took over as the permanent Head Coach of the club where he officially succeeded his fellow Spaniard Unai Emery following what was a short interim spell in charge under former club favourite Freddie Ljungberg.
84 points and a second place finish 5 points behind Premier League Champions Manchester City came in the 2022/23 season as the first of three consecutive finishes as runners-up. In the 2023/24 campaign, the Gunners got even closer to the glory of winning the English Top Flight title, only to lose out by a mere two points to the Cityzens, who themselves got 91 points compared to the Gunners’ total of 89 overall.
Then last season (2024/25), Arsenal were the team to finish in second place once again, this time finishing on a total of 74 points losing out this time to Arne Slot’s Liverpool with Manchester City finishing behind Arteta’s side in 3rd place in the end.
Moving on to Nottingham Forest, their current Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo has been in charge since he was announced as the successor to previous boss Steve Cooper back on 20th December 2023.
The Portuguese Head Coach took charge of the remainder of the 2023/24 season. He was successful in guiding Forest to safety with key victories against the likes of Manchester United (the first for 29 years) and Burnley, the latter of whom was beaten 2 – 1 at Turf Moor to guarantee a 17th place finish and a place in the following season’s Premier League.
Last season, 2024/25, was his first full campaign in charge of the club where his side secured victories against the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, and former club Wolves, who were beaten 3 – 0 on 6th January 2025 in what was a sixth win in a row for Nuno’s side. They looked like they might qualify for the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League in spectacular fashion. Whilst they fought for a highly coveted place in the top five of the Premier League, they did in the end have to settle for what was a 7th place finish with a grand total of 65 points after their 38 games that term. This was enough to see them successfully qualify for the 2025/26 UEFA Conference League.
The last time that these two clubs met at the Emirates Stadium in a competitive fixture was in the Premier League back on 23rd November 2024, when goals from the likes of Bukayo Saka (15’), Thomas Partey (52’), and Ethan Nwaneri (86’) sealed what was a crucial, comfortable and thoroughly deserved 3 – 0 victory over the Midlands outfit.
Overall, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest have gone head to head in a competitive match in all competitions on a grand total of 107 occasions, and it is the Gunners who currently have the superior record in terms of wins with 55 compared with Forest’s total of 29 so far as of the time of writing. There have also been a total of 23 draws to date.
