Arsenal arrive this season as Premier League champions after ending a 22-year wait for the league title in a campaign that will be remembered as one of the most successful in the club’s modern history.
Mikel Arteta’s side finally got their hands on the trophy after several years of near misses, producing the consistency and quality required to finish at the summit of English football.
The title triumph marked Arsenal’s first league title since the famous Invincibles season of 2003/04 and represented the culmination of Arteta’s long-term rebuild at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners came agonisingly close to completing a historic double, reaching the UEFA Champions League final for just the second time in their history. After a thrilling European campaign, Arsenal were ultimately denied by holders Paris Saint-Germain, suffering heartbreak in a penalty shootout after Gabriel skied the Gunners’ final penalty.
There was further disappointment in the domestic cups, with Arsenal finishing runners-up in the Carabao Cup and falling at the quarter-final stage of the FA Cup. However, those setbacks did little to overshadow what was a remarkable season for the North London club.
Nottingham Forest endured a far more difficult campaign this season than the one before. After qualifying for Europe and finishing seventh in 2024–25, expectations were high, but Forest struggled to balance domestic and European commitments. Their Premier League form was inconsistent throughout the year, and a series of poor results left them fighting near the bottom half of the table rather than pushing for another European place. They eventually finished 16th, avoiding relegation but falling well short of supporters’ hopes.
One of the defining features of the season was instability in the dugout. Nuno EspÃrito Santo was dismissed in September, Ange Postecoglou lasted only 39 days, Sean Dyche followed but was also sacked, and VÃtor Pereira became the club’s fourth manager of the campaign. The constant changes made it difficult for Forest to build momentum or establish a clear identity on the pitch.
Despite their league struggles, there were positives. Forest reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League, giving fans memorable European nights and showing the squad could compete at a higher level. Morgan Gibbs-White remained one of the team’s standout performers, finishing as a leading scorer and creative force. In the end, the season was viewed as a disappointment domestically but was partly redeemed by an impressive European run that provided hope for the future.
Overall, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest have met in a competitive fixture 109 times, and it is the hosts who have a superior record of 56 wins compared with the Tricky Trees’ record of 29. There has also been a total of 24 draws between these two teams.
