The 2024/25 FA Cup will resume in early February 2025 for the Fourth Round of this season’s competition. The draw for this stage of the tournament saw Unai Emery’s Aston Villa take on Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs at the historic Villa Park, where there is sure to be a spectacular atmosphere, with the game in prospect promising to be enthralling and highly competitive.
To reach this stage of the competition, Villa were 2 – 1 winners against fellow Premier League outfit West Ham, led by Graham Potter. Amadou Onana (71’) and Morgan Rogers (76’) were the goal scorers, turning the game around after the Hammers had initially taken the lead through Lucas Paqueta (9’).
Moving on to Spurs, they took on Vanarama National League outfit Tamworth away from home at the Lamb Ground in the Third Round of the FA Cup. In the end, the visiting Tottenham Hotspur side were comfortable 3 – 0 winners after extra time thanks to goals from Dejan Kulusevski (107’) and Brennan Johnson (118’) after initially taking the lead through an unfortunate own goal from Tamworth’s Nathan Muya Tshikuna (101’).
Aston Villa are seven time winners of the FA Cup, having lifted this prestigious and historic trophy in 1886/87, 1989/95, 1896/97, 1904/05, 1912/13, 1919/20, and most recently in the 1956/57 season, when they were able to emerge as 2 – 1 winners against Manchester United at the Old Wembley Stadium. The goals on the day for the Villans were scored by Peter McParland in quick succession in the second half (68’, 73’). It was Tommy Taylor who scored the only goal for Manchester United that day in the English Capital (83’).
As for Spurs, they too are a club who are most certainly no strangers to getting their hands on the FA Cup over the years having won this competition on a total of 8 occasions, with North London Club having done so in 1900/01, 1920/21, 1960/61, 1961/62, 1966/67, 1980/81, 1981/82, and most recently in the 1990/91 season.
In the 1991 FA Cup Final, Tottenham Hotspur were able to emerge as 2 – 1 winners against Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest at the Old Wembley Stadium, scoring through a goal from Paul Stewart (55’) and an own goal from Des Walker (94’) in extra time. Forest scored to take the lead initially through Stuart Pearce (16’).
Overall, Aston Villa and Spurs have met in the FA Cup a total of 12 times, and it is Tottenham with the most wins with 7 compared with the Villans’ 4. They have drawn just once.
Villa’s most recent FA Cup win against their North London counterparts came in the 3rd Round Replay of the 1991/92 FA Cup on 14th January 1992 at White Hart Lane, where Aston Villa were 1 – 0 winners, with Dwight Yorke scoring the winning goal.
There is no better way to watch this highly anticipated 2024/25 FA Cup Fourth Round tie between Unai Emery’s Aston Villa and Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs at Villa Park than with an Eventmasters VIP Hospitality Package.
