Arne Slot’s Liverpool will begin their 2024/25 FA Cup Campaign in their Third Round tie against League Two Club Accrington Stanley at Anfield. This game will see David take on Goliath in a contest where the Reds will be looking to seal the win as they look to go all the way to Wembley to win what would be their 9th FA Cup triumph in May 2025.
The Reds are one of the most successful football clubs in England and the world, and in their history they have managed to lift the FA Cup trophy on 8 occasions to date. Their other seven wins took place in 1964/65 (2 – 1 vs. Leeds United), 1973/74 (3 – 0 vs. Newcastle United), 1985/86 (3 – 1 vs. Everton), 1988/89 (3 – 2 vs. Everton), 1991/92 (2 – 0 vs. Sunderland), 2000/01 (2 – 1 vs. Arsenal), and 2005/06 (3 – 3, 3 – 1 on penalties vs. West Ham United).
As for Accrington Stanley, they began their FA Cup campaign this season with a tie away from home against non-league outfit Rushall Olympic, beating them 2 – 0 in the First Round. Stanley then followed this up with a 4 – 1 win on penalties against fellow League Two side Swindon Town in Round Two, after it had ended in a 2 – 2 stalemate.
The furthest that this club has ever made it into this competition is the Fourth Round, having done so on four occasions, most recently in the 2022/23 season when they were knocked out after losing 3 – 1 to Championship Club Leeds United.
They also made the fourth round of the FA Cup in 2009/10 (Lost 3 – 1 to Fulham), 2016/17 (Lost 1 – 0 to Middlesbrough), and in 2018/19, losing very narrowly 1 – 0 against Derby County.
Overall, Liverpool and their fourth tier counterparts Accrington Stanley have never met in any competition in the history of either club. This will be a truly historic match, with the Reds and Stanley facing each other in a competitive match for the very first time.
