• Offensive clothing and away tops are strictly prohibited

However, the clothing listed below is acceptable

• Home jersey tops

The Etihad Stadium will be hosting a truly David versus Goliath clash in the Third Round of the FA Cup this season in January 2025, with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City taking on Karl Robinson’s Salford City of League Two as they look to win and take a step closer to lifting this famous and iconic trophy at Wembley in May.

Manchester City are one of the biggest and most successful football clubs in the world, and they have lifted this famous trophy a total of 7 times, the joint third most alongside fellow Premier League Club Aston Villa. City most recently won the FA Cup back in the 2022/23 season, when two goals from Ilkay Gundogan (1’, 51’) sealed a 2 – 1 win over arch rivals Manchester United on that occasion at Wembley Stadium. Bruno Fernandes scored United’s only goal that day, doing so from the penalty spot with barely more than half an hour of the game having gone in the first half.

The other 6 wins for City in the FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium came in 1903/04 (1 – 0 vs. Bolton Wanderers), 1933/34 (2 – 1 vs. Portsmouth), 1955/56 (3 – 1 vs. Birmingham City), 1968/69 (1 – 0 vs. Leicester City), 2010/11 (1 – 0 vs. Stoke City) and in 2018/19 (6 – 0 vs. Watford).

As for Salford, they are a club who have never got their hands on the FA Cup trophy in their entire 84 year history to date. The closest they have got is the Third Round, which they achieved only this season. They had previously reached the second round on just three occasions, doing so in 2015/16, 2020/21, and 2021/22 seasons, losing to Hartlepool, Newport County, and Chesterfield respectively on each occasion.

To reach the third round of this season’s FA Cup, Robinson’s Ammies team had to negotiate their way past the first two rounds of the competition, facing League One Club Shrewsbury Town in Round One, before then comfortably beating fellow League Two Club Cheltenham Town in Round Two at Moor Lane.

They were 2 – 1 winners against Shrewsbury, beating them thanks to two goals from Matty Lund in the first half (5’, 42’), whilst it was John Marquis who found the back of the net for the visitors for the Shrews’ only goal (15’).

In Round Two, it was a 2 – 0 victory against Cheltenham, with the Robins being beaten following goals from Francis Okoronkwo (20’) and Cole Stockton (22’ – Penalty) in the first half.

Overall, this will be the first time that these two clubs have gone head to head in a competitive match.
