The Reds will not only look to secure Champions League qualification, they will also be looking to mount a challenge for the Premier League title this term. The Bees were one of the league’s surprise packages last season, and they will be holding ambitions of going one better and securing European football this season.
Following a 4-4 draw at St. Mary’s against Southampton on the final day of last season, Liverpool secured a 5th place finish in the Premier League, which did see them end the season on 67 points and a spot in the Europa League and only 4 points adrift off Newcastle, who occupied the final spot in the top four.
Over the 38 games last season, the Reds scored the third most goals in the league with 75 – only Arsenal and Champions Manchester City scored more, with 88 and 94 respectively. Mohamed Salah scored 19 of Liverpool’s goals, whilst Roberto Firmino also contributed 11 goals himself. Summer signing Darwin Núñez and Cody Gakpo got 9 and 7 goals respectively.
Jürgen Klopp was officially appointed as Liverpool Head Coach in October 2015, and in doing so became Brendan Rodgers’ permanent successor at Anfield. The German Head Coach had just left Borussia Dortmund, where he won 2 Bundesliga titles (2010/11 & 2011/12) and a DFB Pokal (2011/12).
Klopp has created his own legacy at Liverpool, and he has won plenty of silverware at the time of writing: 1 Premier League title (2019/20), 1 FA Cup (2021/22), 1 EFL Cup (2021/22), 1 Community Shield (2022), 1 UEFA Champions League title (2018/19), UEFA Super Cup (2019) and 1 FIFA Club World Cup (2019).
Joint with Chelsea, the Reds had the joint 4th best defensive record in the Premier League, conceding on just 47 occasions.
Thomas Frank replaced Dean Smith as Brentford Head Coach on 16th October 2018 after the latter decided to leave the club for Aston Villa. In the 2019/20 season, Brentford came close to promotion to the Premier League, but lost 2-1 in the Play-Off Final against Fulham.
In the 2020/21 season Frank and Brentford successfully earned promotion to the Premier League following a 2-0 victory against Swansea City in the Championship Play-Off Final. It was a 13th place finish in the top flight in the 2021/22 season, finishing a very comfortable 11 points clear of the relegation zone. Last season Frank’s Bees came within touching distance of European Football before having to settle for 9th place on 59 points, despite their 1-0 victory against Champions Manchester City on the final day of the 2022/23 Premier League season.
Ivan Toney was Brentford’s leading goal scorer last season with 20 goals to his name, whereas fellow forward Bryan Mbeumo came 2nd with 9. Yoane Wissa and Danish midfielder Mathias Jensen got 7 and 5 goals respectively.

There have also been just 4 draws between them over the years.
