Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham will come face to face with newly promoted Burnley, who are led by their current Head Coach Scott Parker. Spurs and the Clarets will face each other in the heart of North London at the iconic Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The Lilywhites will be targeting European Football this season, and this game against Burnley could well prove crucial in their efforts to realise this ambition by the time this top flight campaign comes to an end. The hosts will see their chances of beating a side that has just been promoted from the Championship highly and will enter this game with confidence.
Every game is important for Spurs this season, including this one, and so the atmosphere for this game promises to be electric with fans hoping to see their team triumph and take a step closer to this season’s objectives. The match itself should be enthralling, with the Lilywhites looking to always play attractive football.
The 2025/26 campaign will be Head Coach Ange Postecoglou’s third full season in charge, having been in the Spurs hot seat ever since his appointment back on 6th June 2023, when he became Antonio Conte’s permanent successor at the club. The Australian’s arrival followed two interim Head Coach spells under the stewardship of Cristian Stellini and then former player and club favourite Ryan Mason.
By the end of 2023/24, Spurs had recorded a 5th place finish in the Premier League after earning a total of 66 points from their 38 points under the Australian’s maiden campaign in charge at the North London Club. This was enough to see them qualify for the following season’s UEFA Europa League after they only missed out on getting Champions League football by just two points in the end.
The 2024/25 season then followed, and the major highlight of this particular campaign for the club was the win in the prestigious 2025 UEFA Europa League Final which took place at the famous San Mames stadium in Bilbao, Spain in May. It was a 1 – 0 victory against Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United with the victory for Tottenham being secured thanks to a historic winning goal from Welsh international forward Brennan Johnson, who was able to find the back of the United net with just moments left to go in the first half of this game (42’).
Along the way to the Final, the Lilywhites had shown why they were amongst the favourites to lift this trophy. We begin with the League Phase, where the following clubs were beaten by their Premier League counterparts – Ferencvaros (2 – 1), AZ Alkmaar (1 – 0), and as well as Germany’s Hoffenheim who they were able to beat 3 – 2 in a very competitive game away from home in Germany.
Tottenham then moved on to the Round of 16, where they would go up against AZ Alkmaar once again, this time in what is two legged tie in what is the very first knockout round. In the end, the former was able to seal what was a 3 – 2 victory on aggregate to seal a place in the Quarter Finals.
It was to be German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt who were next up as opponents for Tottenham Hotspur, with the two clubs battling it out for a place in the last four. The first leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ended in a stalemate at 1 – 1 in North London.
The second leg saw Spurs ultimately triumph 2 – 1 on aggregate in the end to reach the Semi-Finals after beating Die Adler 1 – 0 at the Deutsche Bank Park following a successful spot kick from Dominic Solanke that ultimately won them the tie in the end.
Bodø/Glimt of Norway were up next and the Norwegian outfit stood in Spurs’ way of getting to the final. The first leg in North London was won comfortably by the hosts who were able to emerge as 3 – 1 winners in the end at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The second leg carried on from where the first one left off, with Tottenham dominant once more, this time at the Aspmyra Stadion.
It was a 2 – 0 win for Ange Postecoglou and his team away from home thanks to goals from Dominic Solanke and Pedro Porro. In the end, it was an emphatic and well-deserved 5 – 1 aggregate triumph to book a place in the final where Tottenham beat Manchester United 1 – 0 in Bilbao.
The win for Tottenham Hotspur in the 2025 UEFA Europa League Final secured UEFA Champions League football for the 2025/26 season.
Moving on to Burnley, the newly promoted side is led by ex-Bournemouth and Fulham Head Coach Scott Parker, who has been in charge since he succeeded Vincent Kompany at the Lancashire club back on 5th July 2024. The 2024/25 campaign was his first in charge, and he led the Clarets to automatic promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, finishing in second place with no less than 100 points after 46 games in the English Second Tier. They only missed out on the title to fellow newly promoted side Leeds United on goal difference alone.
The last time that Tottenham and Burnley came face to face with each other in a competitive fixture was in the Premier League back on Saturday 11th May 2024 when Spurs were able to beat Burnley 2 – 1 thanks to goals from Pedro Porro (32’) and Micky van de Ven (82’), whilst it was Jacob Brunn Larsen who was the scorer of the only goal for the visitors that day (25’).
Overall, these two clubs have met competitively in all competitions on as many as 125 occasions, and it is Tottenham Hotspur who has the superior record of 55 victories compared with Burnley’s total of 42 to date. There have also been 28 draws between these two teams so far, as of the time of writing.
