West Ham United, who are currently led by their English Head Coach Graham Potter, are set to take on Mikel Arteta’s title-chasing Arsenal at the iconic London Stadium, which is located in the heart of East London, during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
If the Hammers can emerge victorious against their North London counterparts, then they will be taking a step closer to realising their ambitions for the current campaign, which is to secure a top half finish, but they are looking to push for European Qualification potentially. This can be achieved via a top seven finish in the English Top Flight this season.
The current Head Coach is, of course, the aforementioned Graham Potter, who has been in charge since he was appointed to replace his Spanish predecessor, Julen Lopetegui, on Thursday, 9th January 2025. Potter came into the role following experience with a plethora of other clubs, including Östersunds, Swansea City, Brighton, and Chelsea.
During his first few months in charge of the Hammers, Potter aimed to guide his new club as far away from the relegation zone as possible, looking to climb the table and build as big a gap as possible between themselves and the bottom three. He successfully led West Ham to a solid and respectable 14th-place finish after they accumulated a total of 43 points from their 38 matches, which saw them end the campaign with a gap of as many as 18 points between them and the relegation places.
On the final day of last season, West Ham United were able to end their 2024/25 Premier League campaign on a high, with them beating Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town side 3 – 1 away from home at Portman Road in East Anglia. It was a comfortable and well-deserved victory for the East London outfit, who were able to score through the likes of James Ward-Prowse (43’), Jarrod Bowen (55’), and finally Mohammed Kudus (87’). It was the Tractor Boys’ Welsh International forward Nathan Broadhead who was the only goal scorer of the game for the hosts, with him briefly restoring parity in this game in what were the early stages of the second half (52’).
Moving on to Arsenal, their Spanish Head Coach Mikel Arteta has been in charge of the Gunners ever since he became Unai Emery’s permanent successor at the North London Club back on Friday 20th December 2019.
Since then, he has guided the club to become regular challengers for the title, finishing as runners-up in the Premier League for three consecutive seasons between 2022 and 2025. Last season, they lost out on the title to Arne Slot’s Liverpool, with the North London outfit earning 74 points from their 38 games, which saw them finish 10 points adrift of their Merseyside rivals in the end. They will be looking to go one better and win the title this season.
The most recent competitive fixture to be played between these two clubs in all competitions was in the Premier League back on Saturday 22nd February 2025 at the Emirates Stadium, and it was a 1 – 0 win for West Ham, with the winning goal being scored in the latter stages of the first half through their England international forward Jarrod Bowen (44’).
Overall, West Ham United and Arsenal have met competitively in all competitions on no less than 153 occasions, and it is the Gunners who currently have a superior record of as many as 74 victories in this fixture, compared with the Hammers’ total of 38 wins to their name so far against their North London rivals. There have also been 41 draws between these two teams to date, as of the time of writing.
