Following the dismissal of Manuel Pellegrini, David Moyes succeeded the Chilean in December 2019, and in doing so began his second stint as West Ham United’s Head Coach with the Hammers in 17th place. Moyes led them to 16th place in 2019/20 before helping the club to achieve its highest ever league finish, with West Ham ending the following season in 6th place with 65 points, securing them a spot in the Europa League for the 2021/22 campaign.

This saw them secure a spot in the Europa Conference League for the 2022/23 campaign. The Hammers did finish 14th in the Premier League last season, but they did win the Europa Conference League Final against Italian outfit Fiorentina. It was a 2-1 in Prague thanks to goals coming from . Saïd Benrahma (62’ – Penalty) and Jarrod Bowen (90’). This was the first European trophy for the Hammers since the club won the European Cup Winners Cup in 1965.
Saïd Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen were the club’s joint leading Premier League goal scorers last season with 6 goals each. Michail Antonio got 5 goals whilst Declan Rice and Lucas Paquetá both got 4 goals.
Following relegation from the Premier League, ex-Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany succeeded Sean Dyche at Turf Moor ahead of the 2022/23 Championship season. Kompany’s Clarets were the outstanding team in the English second tier last term, winning the league title with a total of 101 points after 46 matches.
Nathan Tella was the Clarets’ top scorer with 17, whilst Manuel Benson was just behind him with 12 goals. Jay Rodriguez scored the third most goals Vincent Kompany’s side last season with 10.
West Ham United and Burnley met in a competitive fixture for the very first time on 17th November 1923. The two clubs have met each other on 94 occasions with the Hammers having a superior record of 39 wins in comparison to the Clarets’ 35. There have been 20 draws between them to date.
The most recent match that was played between these two teams was on 17th April 2022 in what was a 1-1 Premier League draw between West Ham United and Burnley at the London Stadium. Tomáš Souček (74’) and Wout Weghorst (33’) got the goals.
