West Ham United, who are currently led by their English Head Coach Graham Potter, are set to take on Scott Parker’s newly promoted Burnley side at the iconic London Stadium, which is located in the heart of East London. This game is going to take place during the much anticipated 2025/26 Premier League season.
A victory against the Clarets would see the Hammers take that vital step closer to achieving their ambitions for the current campaign, which are to get at least a top half finish whilst also potentially pushing for qualification for European Football. A win would also give them momentum going into their next few games in all competitions.
Graham Potter is the current Head Coach of West Ham United Football Club. This is a post that he has held ever since it was announced that he would be succeeding his Spanish counterpart Julen Lopetegui in the dugout at the London Stadium back on Thursday 9th January 2025. Potter came into the role having had plenty of experience at the top level of English Football, having previously managed the likes of Brighton and Chelsea.
The first few months in charge for Potter was in the closing stages of the 2024/25 season, and he did manage to guide them well away from the relegation zone, and up to 14th place which is where they finished in the end after earning a grand total of no less than 43 points in all after they had played all of their 38 games in the league that season.
The Hammers, on the final day of last season, did at least manage to end the campaign on a high, with them successfully beating Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town side away from home at Portman Road comfortably 3 – 1. The goals for the Hammers that day came from the likes of James Ward-Prowse (43’), Jarrod Bowen (55’), and Mohammed Kudus (87’). Meanwhile, the only goal scored for the home side came from the Tractor Boys’ Welsh forward Nathan Broadhead at the start of the second half, which briefly restored parity in this game (52’).
Moving on to Burnley, their English Head Coach Scott Parker has been in charge of the newly promoted Clarets ever since his appointment by the Lancashire Club was confirmed back on Friday 5th July 2024, following the departure of his predecessor Vincent Kompany for German Giants Bayern Munich.
His first full season in charge was indeed the 2024/25 campaign in the English Second Tier, the EFL Championship. Throughout the 46 games, his Clarets side collected a total of no less than 100 points, which was enough for automatic promotion. However, they ultimately finished second after losing out on the title to Leeds United on goal difference.
The last time these two clubs met in a competitive game in all competitions was in the Premier League, during the 2023/24 season, on Sunday, 10th March 2024, at the iconic London Stadium. It was to be a 2 – 2 draw in the end, with both Lucas Paqueta (46’) and former Burnley striker Danny Ings scoring the goals for the hosts in the early stages of stoppage time in the second half (90+1’). Meanwhile, a goal from on loan Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana, who got the goal for the Clarets, whilst also scoring through an own goal later in the match in what was early stoppage time in the first half, thanks to Hammers defender Dinos Mavropanos (45+1’).
That was, of course, the second and final match between these two clubs in the Premier League that term. The Hammers did win the first game between them in the league in 2023/24, with West Ham winning 2 – 1 at Turf Moor thanks to an own goal from Burnley defender Dara O’Shea (86’) as well as a goal from Tomas Soucek in second half stoppage time (90+1’), with both goals coming very late on in the game in the second half. As for the home side Burnley, their only goal of the game gave them what was an initial lead from the penalty spot in the very early stages of the second half (49’).
Overall, West Ham United and Burnley have met competitively in all competitions on at least 96 occasions, and it is the Hammers who currently hold the superior record, with as many as 40 victories in this fixture, compared to the 35 that Burnley have accumulated against West Ham so far. There have also been as many as 21 draws between these two teams to date, as of the time of writing.
