The London Stadium is set to stage another match between West Ham United and Fulham in the 2023/24 Premier League season. David Moyes’ Hammers will be in the Europa League after their 2-1 Europa Conference League win against Fiorentina, and they will be hoping to obtain a top-seven finish in the Premier League this season as will Fulham after their stunning season last term.
In the Europa Conference League Final in Prague, the Hammers secured their 2-1 win against Fiorentina through goals coming courtesy of Saïd Benrahma’s penalty (62’) and Jarrod Bowen’s (90’).
David Moyes became Manuel Pellegrini’s permanent successor at the London Stadium in December 2019, and just a week after the Chilean Head Coach’s dismissal. By the conclusion of his first season in his second spell with the club (2019/20), the Hammers secured their spot in the Premier League with 40 points being accumulated to earn a 16th-place finish – 5 clear of the bottom three.
Incredible progress was made by the Hammers in the 2020/21 season, with the club securing their highest-ever league finish, ending the season in 6th with 65 points. This saw them qualify for the Europa League.
The 2021/22 Premier League season did end positively for the club when they finished in 7th place, accumulating 56 points which was enough to secure them a spot in the Europa Conference League for the 2022/23 Premier League season. Last season they finished in 14th place after collecting a total of 40 points in their 38 Premier League matches.
Saïd Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen were the club’s joint leading goal scorers last season with 6 goals each. Michail Antonio got 5 goals, whilst Declan Rice and Lucas Paquetá both got 4 goals.
Marco Silva took over as Fulham’s Head Coach ahead of the 2021/22 Championship season after his predecessor Scott Parker decided to depart for promotion rivals Bournemouth. Silva’s Cottagers were the dominant team in the second tier that year, winning the league after accumulating no less than 90 points with 27 wins in their 46 matches to boot. In their first season back in the Premier League, the club were one of the top tier’s surprise packages challenging for Europe before having to settle for a 10th-place finish with 52 points – 18 clear of an instant return to the Championship.
Aleksandar Mitrovic scored the most goals for Fulham with 14, with Carlos Vinícius and Willian joint 2nd with 5 goals each. Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Andreas Pereira and Manor Solomon got 4 goals each.
West Ham United and Fulham met in a competitive fixture for the very first time in their respective histories on 3rd December 1898 in a league match, where the Hammers won 2-1. West Ham has been dominant in this fixture, winning 51 of their 107 meetings, compared to the Cottagers’ 32. There have been 24 draws between these two clubs at the time of writing.
The most recent match to have taken place between these two teams took place on 8th April 2023 when West Ham United won 1-0 in the Premier League at Craven Cottage, where a Harrison Reed own goal secured all three points for David Moyes’ Hammers (23’).
