Graham Potter’s West Ham United are set to take on a newly promoted Leeds United side, who are currently led by their German Head Coach Daniel Farke at the iconic London Stadium located in the heart of East London during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
A victory for the Hammers against their Yorkshire counterparts here will see them take a step closer to successfully realising their ambitions for the current season, which are to finish in the top half of the table, while also potentially pushing for European Qualification this term. A top-seven finish would secure them a place in Europe for the next season.
The current Head Coach of West Ham United Football Club is, of course, the aforementioned Graham Potter. Potter has been in charge of the Hammers ever since his appointment by the club was confirmed back on Thursday 9th January 2025, where he succeeded his Spanish counterpart, Julen Lopetegui, on a permanent basis. He entered the role with extensive experience, having worked with notable clubs such as Östersunds, Swansea City, Brighton, and Chelsea.
In his first few months in charge of the East London Club, he was able to successfully guide his new club away from any potential relegation trouble, with the Hammers climbing up the table before ending up with a respectable 14th place finish. They had earned a total of as many as 43 points from their 38 games in the English Top Flight, and they were also as many as 18 points clear of the drop overall, in the end.
West Ham’s opponents on the final day of last season were Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town away from home at Portman Road. They were able to end their 2024/25 top flight campaign on a high, with them deservedly beating the Tractor Boys 3 – 1 thanks to the goals of James Ward-Prowse (43’), Jarrod Bowen (55’), and Mohammed Kudus (87’). Nathan Broadhead scored the only goal for the hosts early on in the second half, which briefly restored parity in this game for Ipswich Town (52’).
Moving on to Leeds United, their German Head Coach Daniel Farke has been in charge of the Yorkshire based club since his appointment was officially confirmed back on Tuesday 4th July 2023, with him succeeding Sam Allardyce in the Elland Road dugout.
In his first season at the club (2023/24), his Leeds side managed to finish 3rd in the EFL Championship table with a total of 90 points from their 46 games. After beating Norwich City 4 – 0 on aggregate over two legs in the Promotion Play-Offs Semi Finals, they then lost 1 – 0 to Southampton at Wembley in the 2024 Championship Play-Off Final. The winning goal for the Saints on the day came from their forward Adam Armstrong in the early stages of the first half (24’).
Then last season, Daniel Farke’s Leeds United side earned themselves a return to the Premier League with promotion back to the top flight of English Football being sealed at the second time of asking. They did so automatically after they were able to win the 2024/25 EFL Championship title after earning a grand total of no less than 100 points from their 46 matches. It was close still, though, as they only finished above runners-up Burnley on goal difference alone.
The most recent competitive fixture to be played between these two clubs in all competitions was in the Premier League back on Sunday 21st May 2023 at the London Stadium in what was a comfortable and well deserved 3 – 1 victory for the Hammers. Their goals came from the likes of Declan Rice (32’), Jarrod Bowen (72’), and finally Manuel Lanzini (90’). The only goal for Leeds that day came from Rodrigo (17’).
Overall, West Ham United and Leeds United have met competitively in all competitions on no less than 111 occasions, and it is Leeds who do currently have the superior record of as many as 49 victories in this fixture compared with 32 for the Hammers so far, as of the time of writing. There have also been 30 draws between these two clubs to date, as of the time of writing.
