West Ham United, led by their English Head Coach Graham Potter, will face Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City at the London Stadium in the 2024/25 Premier League season. Getting all three points against the newly promoted Foxes would bring them closer to their ambitions for this term, which is at least a mid table finish.
Following the dismissal of his predecessor Julen Lopetegui, Graham Potter was unveiled as the Spaniard’s successor at the London Stadium back on Thursday 9th January 2025. Potter’s successful managerial career began with Swedish Club Ostersund, who he enjoyed great success with during his 7 year spell there, between 2011 and 2018. He guided the club no less than three promotions in almost as many seasons, taking them from the fourth tier all the way to the Allsvenskan, which is the top flight of Swedish Football.
During his time with the club, he led them to the the Final of the Swedish FA Cup, the Svenska Cupen, in the 2016/17 campaign, where they were able to emerge with an emphatic to a 4 – 1 victory against Norrkoping. This saw them secure qualification for the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League in sensational fashion. They would go on to be eliminated over two legs by Arsenal in the Round of 32.
After a short but successful stint with Swansea City, who had just been relegated to the EFL Championship from 2018 to 2019, Potter was appointed by Premier League Club Brighton after the dismissal of Chris Hughton. In his three year spell with the Seagulls between 2019 and 2022, he led them to a first ever victory against Manchester United in the entire history of the South Coast Club, whilst also battling consistently for European Football. Potter also led them to their best ever Premier League points total of 51 points to secure a 9th place finish – the previous record had been beaten by a margin of 10 points.
Then followed a short stint at Chelsea, taking charge of the West London Club from 8th September 2022 to 2nd April 2023.
Moving on to Leicester City, Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge of the Foxes on Friday 29th November 2024, taking over from Steve Cooper as his successor at the Foxes. This is his second job in senior management after a spell in charge of Dutch Giants PSV Eindhoven for one season, from 2022 to 2023. He was then part of Erik Ten Hag’s Coaching staff at Manchester United before going on to be their Caretaker Head Coach when his Dutch compatriot was dismissed by the Red Devils.
van Nistelrooy’s Foxes side will be looking to take all three points themselves in the English Capital in this game against the Hammers at the London Stadium, as they themselves look to avoid relegation following their return to the top flight after promotion back to the Premier League from the EFL Championship was secured.
These two clubs have gone head to head in all competitions a total of 141 times, and the Hammers have the superior number of 55 wins compared to the Foxes’ total of 52 in this fixture so far, as of the time of writing. So far, there have been 34 draws between these two teams.
West Ham United and Leicester City are set to play each other at the London Stadium in the 2024/25 Premier League season. This game is set to be highly competitive and entertaining, with a tremendous atmosphere to boot.
