Graham Potter’s West Ham United side is set to come face to face with a Manchester City side who are currently led by their Spanish Head Coach Pep Guardiola. This game will take place at the iconic London Stadium, located in the heart of East London, during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Should the Hammers earn all three points against the Cityzens, then they will be taking what could very well prove to be a crucial victory that could take them a step closer to realising their ambitions to seal a top half finish in the table by the time the 2025/26 campaign comes to an end. They could also push for a place in European Football for the following season with a top seven finish this term.
The incumbent Head Coach of West Ham United Football Club is, of course, the aforementioned Graham Potter. Potter has been in charge ever since the ex-Swansea City, Brighton, and Chelsea boss took charge as Julen Lopetegui’s successor back on Thursday 9th January 2025. He brought with him a wealth of experience that put him in good stead in his latest job in management with West Ham.
Potter’s first few months in charge saw him tasked with the challenge of keeping the Hammers above the relegation zone whilst also climbing as high as possible in the Premier League table. In the end, they finished in 14th place, having accumulated as many as 43 points from their 38 games in the top flight. This saw them end up finishing that campaign with an 18 point gap between themselves and the bottom three.
On the final day of last season, West Ham did manage to end it on a high with them coming away with what was a commanding and well deserved 3 – 1 win away from home at Portman Road against Ipswich Town. The visitors found their goals thanks to the efforts of the likes of James Ward-Prowse (43’), Jarrod Bowen (55’), and Mohammed Kudus (87’). The only goal for the Tractor Boys was through their Welsh International forward Nathan Broadhead, who scored for the hosts early on in the second half (52’). It was an equalising goal, with parity not lasting long after the Hammers retook the lead just minutes later.
Moving on to Manchester City, their Spanish Head Coach, Pep Guardiola, has been in charge since the start of the 2016/17 season. He succeeded Manuel Pellegrini, who took charge of all of the remaining games in the 2015/16 season following confirmation of Pep’s appointment at the club back on Monday 1st February 2016.
Over the course of his career at the club so far, he has led the Cityzens to win a wide array of major trophies, which includes 6 Premier League titles (2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21, 2021/22/ 2022/23 & 2023/24), 2 FA Cups (2018/19 & 2022/23), 4 Carabao Cup titles (2017/18, 2018/19, 2019/20 & 2020/21), 3 FA Community Shield titles (2018, 2019 & 2024), 1 UEFA Champions League title (2022/23), 1 UEFA Super Cup title (2023), and finally 1 FIFA Club World Cup (2023).
Overall, West Ham United and Manchester City have met competitively in all competitions on at least 123 occasions, and it is the Cityzens who currently hold the superior record, with as many as 66 victories in this particular fixture, whereas the Hammers have 38 wins to their name against the Cityzens. There have also been 19 draws between these two clubs to date, as of the time of writing.
