Graham Potter’s West Ham United are set to welcome a Nottingham Forest side who are currently led by their Portuguese Head Coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, at the iconic London Stadium, which is located in the heart of East London. This much-anticipated game is set to take place during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
If the Hammers are indeed able to get the better of Forest with a victory and the three points available from this contest, then they will take a step closer to realising their ambition to finish in the top half of the table, or even to push for European Football this season. A place in Europe would be secured with a top seven finish in the league.
The current Head Coach of West Ham United Football Club is Graham Potter, who has been in charge of the Hammers ever since his appointment as Julen Lopetegui’s successor at the club was officially confirmed back on Thursday, 9th January 2025. He entered the role with extensive managerial experience in the Premier League, including stints with Brighton and Chelsea.
In the first few months of his time in charge so far, Potter had initially been tasked with guiding his new team away from the danger of the relegation battle and climbing up the table. He and his side were successful in this endeavour, with West Ham ending up with a respectable 14th-place finish in the English Top Flight, accumulating a grand total of 43 points from their 38 games. They avoided the drop by as many as 18 points in the end.
The Hammers were indeed able to end their latest top-flight season on a high, beating Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town side away from home at Portman Road on what was the final day of the 2024/25 Premier League season. James Ward-Prowse (43’), Jarrod Bowen (55’), and Mohammed Kudus (87’) scored for the visitors in a 3 – 1 win in East Anglia, with the only goal for the hosts coming from Nathan Broadhead (52’). Broadhead had scored the equalising goal to briefly restore parity for the Tractor Boys in this game.
Moving on to Nottingham Forest, their Portuguese Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo has been in charge of the East Midlands club ever since he was named as Steve Cooper’s successor at the City Ground back on Wednesday, 20th December 2023. By the end of the campaign, he had led them to safety with a 17th-place finish, 6 points clear of the relegation zone.
The 2024/25 season was Nuno’s first full season in charge of Forest, and it was an excellent one for the club, with his team being the surprise package of the latest top-flight campaign. They ended up finishing with a total of no less than 65 points, which was enough for them to qualify for European Football for the 2025/26 campaign, thanks to a 7th place finish. They finished just 1 point adrift of the UEFA Champions League places.
Overall, West Ham United and Nottingham Forest have met competitively in all competitions on no less than 122 occasions, and both sides have won 48 games each in this fixture over the years, so they both have the opportunity to add another win to their tally. There have also been 26 draws between these two teams so far, as of the time of writing.
