Vitor Pereira’s Wolves and an Aston Villa side, who are currently led by their Spanish Head Coach Unai Emery, are set to come face to face at the iconic and historic Molineux Stadium during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
This is a game between the fierce local rivals in the Midlands, and if the Old Gold can emerge victorious against the Villans, then they will claim the local bragging rights whilst also taking a crucial step closer to realising their ambitions for the current campaign. These are to finish in midtable, whilst also potentially pushing for a spot in the top half come the end of the season in May 2026.
The aforementioned Vitor Pereira is the current Head Coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, and he has been in his latest managerial post since his appointment back on Thursday 19th December 2024, when he was chosen to replace his predecessor in the Molineux dugout, Gary O’Neil.
Throughout his opening few months in charge of Wolves towards the back end of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, Pereira’s Wolves were looking to avoid relegation and to also climb as high as possible in the league. They were able to survive the drop comfortably in 16th place with 42 points from their 38 games – this saw them avoid relegation by a margin of no less than 18 points in the end.
The 2025/26 Premier League campaign will be his first full season in charge of the Midlands Club.
During his tenure at Wolves so far, Head Coach Vitor Pereira has been in charge in games where his side has secured some sensational results, one of which came against Tottenham Hotspur, which saw them beat Spurs 4 – 2 at a home game at the historic Molineux Stadium. The goals for the Old Gold was scored by the likes of Rayan Ait-Nouri (2’), Jorgen Strand Larsen (64’), and Matheus Cunha (86’), whilst there was also an own goal from Tottenham defender Djed Spence towards the end of the first half, just before the half time break (38’).
The goal scorers for Spurs in this game were their forwards Mathys Tel (59’) and Richarlison (85’), who were both able to score their goals in the second half of this particular game.
Moving on to Aston Villa, their Spanish Head Coach Unai Emery has been in charge of the West Midlands Club ever since his tenure began back on Tuesday 1st November 2022, which came just a few days after his appointment had been announced back on Monday 24th October, with him being named as Steven Gerrard’s successor at Villa Park.
In the 2023/24 Premier League season, he led them to UEFA Champions League qualification after the Spaniard guided his side to an outstanding 4th place finish, accumulating a total of 68 points from their 38 matches. They would go on to progress all the way to the Quarter Finals in the competition in the following season (2024/25), being knocked out 5 – 4 on aggregate by the eventual winners, PSG, even after beating them 3 – 2 at Villa Park in the second leg.
In the league itself last term, they narrowly missed out on qualifying for the highly prestigious Champions League for the second season in a row, with them having accumulated a grand total of 66 points from their 38 games, missing out on goal difference in the end to Newcastle United, who successfully secured 5th place.
The last time that these two clubs came face to face in a competitive game in all competitions was in the Premier League back on Saturday 1st February 2025 at Molineux, in what was a comfortable and a well deserved 2 – 0 victory for Wolves who won the game with goals from the likes of Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (12’) and Matheus Cunha (90+7’). Both of the goals came either side of half time.
Overall, Wolves and Aston Villa have met competitively in all competitions on no less than 138 occasions, and it is Villa who currently has the superior record of as many as 58 victories in this fixture, compared with the Old Gold’s total of 45 wins against the Villans to date. There have also been 35 draws between these two teams so far, as of the time of writing.
