Mamma Mia the musical is very popular and features music inspired by the legendary band ABBA. The musical is staged at the Novello Theatre in London’s West End. It was first performed at the Prince Edward Theatre on Tuesday 6th April 1999, before moving to the Prince of Wales Theatre before finally ending up at the Novello Theatre in September 2012.
The Novello Theatre opened before the start of the First World War in 1905, going through many name changes before being given it’s current name in 2005 in tribute to Ivor Novello, a musician and singer who had lived above the premises for more than 40 years.
The musical Mamma Mia has been performed at the Novello Theatre since September 2012. It has been performed over 9,000 times since it’s first on Tuesday 6th April 1999.
There are to be numerous performances of Mamma Mia the Musical over the coming months, till Saturday 28th September 2024.
Original cast members for the musical included big names such as Siobhan McCarthy (Donna Sheridan), Louise Plowright (Tanya), Jenny Galloway (Rosie) and Lisa Stokke (Sophie Sheridan).
