The Lion King – Lyceum Theatre – London Theatre West End Tickets & Hospitality Packages
The Lion King Musical, based on the iconic Disney movie, is back at the Lyceum Theatre in London’s West End. It was first performed at the Orpheum Theatre in the United States in 1997, before coming to the UK in October 1999.
The Lyceum Theatre is one of the oldest in the world, opening it’s doors in 1765. It was originally known as the ‘English Opera House’ before it burnt down in 1830. It was then rebuilt twice, once in 1834 and again in 1904. The latter renovation is the one that still stands today.
The musical debuted at the Lyceum Theatre on October 19th, 1999. Over the past 24 years, it has been performed at this historic venue over 8,500 times since it made it’s debut in the UK.
Popularity has never been an issue for this musical, having become the highest earning title in box office history (for both stage works AND film), grossing at $8.1 billion (£6.6 billion) in September 2014. The previous record was set by The Phantom of the Opera.
In 1998, The Lion King Musical won a Tony Award for Best Musical.
Elton John and Tim Rice are the writers for the songs in the production and ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’ is one of his most famous songs from Elton John’s illustrious career.
The Lion King Musical is being performed at the Lyceum Theatre for several months, with the last performance coming on Sunday 2nd June 2024.
There have been many famous actors who have performed in this musical over the years, including: Christopher Jackson (Ensemble), Derrick Davis (Scar & Mufasa), Samuel E. Wright (Mufasa), Max Casella (Timon), Alton Fitzgerald White (Mufasa) and Wallace Smith (Ensemble & Simba).
