Fitzpatrick Survives Late Wobble To Beat Scheffler in Play-Off Drama in RBC Heritage

Genesis Scottish Open - Golf Hospitality 2026 - Renaissance Club - Green on 18

Matt Fitzpatrick produced a composed and clinical finish to edge world No 1 Scottie Scheffler in a play-off and claim the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town, securing his second PGA Tour title of the season in dramatic fashion.

The Englishman had looked in control for much of the final round after taking a three-shot lead into Sunday, and briefly extended that advantage early on with a strong start that suggested he might pull clear. But as so often in elite-level golf, momentum proved fragile under pressure.

Scheffler, relentless as ever down the stretch, clawed his way back into contention with late birdies, applying sustained pressure as Fitzpatrick began to wobble coming home. A bogey at the final hole dropped the Yorkshireman back into a share of the lead at 18 under, setting up a sudden-death play-off.

Returning to the 18th, Fitzpatrick delivered when it mattered most. While Scheffler found trouble short of the green, the Englishman fired his approach to around 12 feet before rolling in the decisive birdie putt to seal victory and add another PGA Tour title to his growing CV.

It was another high-quality finish in a week that once again underlined how fine the margins are at the very top of the game following Rory McIlroy’s win at Augusta with Scottie Scheffler having to settle for second for consecutive weeks.

With the season now building towards a packed summer of marquee events, attention turns to some of the biggest tournaments on both the DP World Tour and European soil.
