More about NFL London:

NFL matches were being played internationally even before the NFL London Games were established. In 2005, the best teams in the sport were taking part in the ‘American Bowl’ and in ‘NFL Europe’.

Starting with the American Bowl, it was a series of pre-season matches that were played across the world that ended in the same year. As for NFL Europe, it was a developmental league that lasted until 2007.

It was on Sunday, 2nd October 2005 that the first ever NFL match to be played outside of Europe, with the San Francisco 49ers taking on the Arizona Cardinals at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. In front of a 103,467-strong crowd, the Cardinals came away as 31 – 14 winners.

It was a game between the New York Giants and the Miami Dolphins that kicked off the first NFL London Games in 2007. The Giants were 13 – 10 winners under the arch at the iconic Wembley Stadium.

The first time multiple NFL regular season matches were played in London was in 2013, with both games hosted at Wembley. The Pittsburgh Steelers played the Minnesota Vikings on 29th September before the San Francisco 49ers took on the Jacksonville Jaguars on 27th October. The Vikings were 34 – 27 winners against the Steelers, whilst the 49ers were 42 – 10 winners against the Jaguars.

The first NFL regular season match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was played between the Chicago Bears and the Oakland Raiders on 6th October 2019. The Raiders won an enthralling game under the arch 24 – 21.

Fast forward to October 2023, which saw the most recent NFL London games take place at Wembley and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The first match occurred on 1st October when the Jacksonville Jaguars were 23 – 7 winners against the Atlanta Falcons.

This game was followed by the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 25 – 20 win over the Buffalo Bills on 8th October at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Final NFL London match in 2023 was also played in North London, and it saw the Baltimore Ravens beat the Tennessee Titans 24 – 16.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be participating in the NFL London games in 2024, and they will be playing their games under that famous arch at the iconic Wembley Stadium.

It has been announced that the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings will be taking part in this years’ NFL London, with them hosting their matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the heart of North London.

The Chicago Bears have played in the NFL London on two previous occasions. Their first was in October 2011, when they were 24 – 18 winners against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Wembley Stadium. Their most recent NFL London match was on 13th October 2019, when they were narrowly defeated 21 – 24 by the Oakland Raiders at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

History is something that the Chicago Bears are certainly not short of. They have participated in all 100 seasons of the NFL, and they have so far won 9 NFL Championships as well as one Super Bowl that they won after beating the New England Patriots 46 – 10 in 1986.

Moving on to the Minnesota Vikings, they have taken part in the NFL London Games on three previous occasions. Their first was in September 2013 when they were 34 – 27 winners against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Wembley.

They then beat the Cleveland Browns 33 – 16 at Twickenham in October 2017 before beating the New Orleans Saints 28 – 25 in their most recent NFL London game on 2nd October 2022. The Vikings are yet to win the Super Bowl, but they did win their first and so far only NFL Championship title back in 1969.

The Jacksonville Jaguars, the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings are the only teams to have been confirmed for the 2024 NFL London Games with more to be revealed in the coming weeks.
