The most recent T20 Finals Day in the second city saw the likes of the Northants Steelbacks take on Hampshire Hawks, and Lancashire Lightning face off against Somerset in the semi finals. Somerset booked their place in the Final thanks what was a 23 run victory over the aforementioned Lancashire Lightning, meanwhile Hampshire secured their spot in the final against Lancashire following a 6 wicket triumph over Northamptonshire.
Somerset and the Hampshire Hawks met at the world-famous Edgbaston Cricket Ground in the most recent edition of the T20 Blast Final on Finals Day 2025. It was an extraordinary contest that eventually ended in what was a 6 wicket win for Somerset.
Not only was it their second T20 Blast Finals Day win in three years, this was not the only reason why it was a historic day for Somerset. To win, they required what became a record chase, Will Smeed was the star of the show, as he was able to score what was an extraordinary 94 runs that meant that he and his team would be able to taste the ecstasy of victory against opponents Hampshire at Edgbaston. Unsurprisingly, Smeed was named as man of the match.
This is now the third time that Somerset has ever won Finals Day, making them the joint most successful side in its history, alongside the likes of the Leicestershire Foxes (2004, 2006, 2011) and the aforementioned Hampshire Hawks (2010, 2012, 2022).
Somerset’s previous two wins had come back in 2005 and 2023, where they were able to beat Lancashire Lightning and the Essex Eagles by 7 wickets and 14 runs respectively. The 2025 Final at Edgbaston was also their second in three years, being runners-up back in 2024.
