Arsenal, who are currently led by their Spanish Head Coach Mikel Arteta, are set to take on their fierce local rivals Chelsea, led by Enzo Maresca, in the semi-finals of the 2025/26 Carabao Cup, with the second leg of this much-anticipated and high-profile tie set to take place at the iconic Emirates Stadium in February 2026. The Gunners will be looking to book their place in the Final at Wembley.
If it is Arsenal who go on to win this season’s competition, it will be the third time that they have lifted this famous trophy in their entire illustrious history.
The Gunners first won this trophy all the way back in the 1986/87 season, when they were victorious against Liverpool, who they beat 2 – 1 at Wembley thanks to a brace from Charlie Nicholas, with these goals coming in either half (30’, 83’). Meanwhile, it was the legendary forward Ian Rush who was the scorer of the only goal for the Reds that day (23’).
The second and most recent triumph in the final of this competition took place once again at Wembley back in the 1992/93 campaign, when they were 2 – 1 winners, this time against Sheffield Wednesday. The Gunners were able to score through the likes of Paul Merson (20’) and Steve Morrow (68’), whilst it was John Harkes who scored the only goal of the game for the Owls, initially giving them the lead in this game in the early stages of the first half (8’).
Arsenal began their 2025/26 Carabao Cup campaign in the third round, which was where they made the trip to Vale Park to take on League One outfit Port Vale, whom they were able to beat 2 – 0 thanks to the goals of Eberechi Eze (8’) and Leandro Trossard (86’).
They then faced fellow Premier League club Brighton in the Fourth Round, which was once again a 2 – 0 win, with the goals being scored this time by the likes of Ethan Nwaneri (57’) and Bukayo Saka (76’), who both were able to find the back of the net in the second half of this game.
Arsenal then took on Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace in the quarter-finals before taking on Chelsea in the semi-finals.
Moving on to Chelsea, they have won the Carabao Cup on five occasions. Their first triumph came in the 1964/65 season, when they emerged as 3–2 winners on aggregate in a two-legged final against Leicester City, with all five goals coming in the first leg at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues scored against the Foxes through the likes of Bobby Tambling (33’), Terry Venables (70’ – Penalty), and Eddie McCreadie (81’). Leicester scored through Colin Appleton (46’) and Jimmy Goodfellow (75’).
They then followed this up with further triumphs in 1997/98 (2 – 0 vs. Middlesbrough, AET), 2004/05 (3 – 2 vs. Liverpool), and 2006/07 (2 – 1 vs. Arsenal).
Their latest Carabao Cup triumph was in the 2014/15 campaign, when they were 2 – 0 winners against Tottenham Hotspur, following goals from the likes of John Terry (45’) and Diego Costa (56’) against rivals Spurs.
Chelsea’s 2025/26 Carabao Cup journey began back in the third round against League One Lincoln City at Cincil Bank, winning 2 – 1 following goals from the likes of Tyrique George (48’) and Facundo Buonanotte (50’) early on in the second half.
This was then followed by a Fourth Round tie against fellow Premier League outfit Wolves, whom they beat 4 – 3 following goals from Andrey Santos (5’), Tyrique George (15’), Estêvão (41’), and Jamie Gittens (89’) at Molineux. The hosts were scorers through Tolu Arokodare (48’) and David Møller Wolfe (73’, 90+1’), who found the back of the net for the Old Gold.
More recently, they were 3 – 1 victors away from home in Wales against League One’s Cardiff City at the Bluebirds’ Cardiff City Stadium home in the Quarter Finals. There were goals from Alejandro Garnacho (57’, 90+3’) and Pedro Neto (82’) that day, with the former scoring a brace. David Turnbull did temporarily restore parity in this game midway through the second half (75’).
All eyes will be on who will emerge victorious from the tie following the second leg of this semi-final tie in the 2025/26 Carabao Cup at the aforementioned Emirates Stadium, with the Gunners looking to book their place in the Final at Wembley this season.
