There are rivalries, and then there is the North London derby. Few matches in football carry quite the same mix of passion, tension and emotion as Arsenal against Tottenham Hotspur.
For one side of north London, it’s the chance to celebrate. For the other, it’s the fear of hearing about the result for months.
The fixture has produced some of the most memorable moments in English football history. Arsenal famously clinched league titles at White Hart Lane in both 1971 and 2004, while countless late winners, stunning goals and fiery encounters have only added to the rivalry’s rich story.
No matter the form, the league table or what’s at stake, Arsenal against Spurs is never just another game. In north London, it’s the one that matters most.

Arsenal arrive this season as Premier League champions after ending a 22-year wait for the league title in a campaign that will be remembered as one of the most successful in the club’s modern history.
Mikel Arteta’s side finally got their hands on the trophy after several years of near misses, producing the consistency and quality required to finish at the summit of English football.
The title triumph marked Arsenal’s first league title since the famous Invincibles season of 2003/04 and represented the culmination of Arteta’s long-term rebuild at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners came agonisingly close to completing a historic double, reaching the UEFA Champions League final for just the second time in their history. After a thrilling European campaign, Arsenal were ultimately denied by holders Paris Saint-Germain, suffering heartbreak in a penalty shootout after Gabriel skied the Gunners’ final penalty.
There was further disappointment in the domestic cups, with Arsenal finishing runners-up in the Carabao Cup and falling at the quarter-final stage of the FA Cup. However, those setbacks did little to overshadow what was a remarkable season for the North London club.
Spurs were experiencing a disappointing season after already parting ways with Thomas Frank earlier in the campaign, before the appointment of Tudor.
De Zerbi came in and made an immediate impact, picking up 11 points from his 7 in charge.
Since the Italian’s arrival, Spurs sit 7th in the Premier League and will be looking to replicate that from the start of the 2026/27 season.
De Zerbi started his managerial career in the fourth tier of Italian football, taking over at Darfo Boario. The Italian stayed for just 22 games before joining Foggia in the summer of 2014. During his time there, he boasted a point per game (PPG) record of 1.86, taking the club to Italy’s second division.
After his success in Southern Italy De Zerbi got his big break in Italian football when Palermo hired the former midfielder. However, he struggled to make an immediate impact and was relieved of his duties after just 13 matches in charge, recording a PPG of 0.38.
Following his departure De Zerbi also had spells at Benevento and Sassuolo. The latter was where he really made his name in top-flight football. He spent three years in the Sassuolo dugout, managing the side for three seasons before departing for Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk.
After just one season in Ukraine and a PPG record of 2.17 after 30 games De Zerbi made the jump to the English seaside, taking over at Brighton & Hove Albion. Two successful years then followed in the South of England, with Brighton qualifying for the UEFA Europa League for the first time in their history.
De Zerbi had his side competing against the elite across the Premier League and Europe, which earned him a move to Marseille. His spell at Marseille sparked more success for the 46-year-old. After 69 matches in the dugout De Zerbi departed with a PPG record of 1.81, his second highest in European football.
Then, in March, De Zerbi put pen to paper on a five-year deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to guide Spurs back to the UEFA Champions League and compete at the summit of the Premier League.
Overall, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have met in a competitive fixture 213 times, and it is the hosts who have a superior record of 91 wins compared with the Lilywhites’ record of 67. There has also been a total of 55 draws between these two teams.
