A new chapter is set to be written in the extraordinary and long standing rivalry between Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and their fierce rivals Spurs in the latest edition of the world renowned North London Derby, which is set to take place at the Emirates Stadium during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The Gunners and the Lilywhites will be competing not only for local bragging rights, but to also boost the chances of realising their respective ambitions this season, which for Arsenal is to challenge for and win the Premier League title, and this game against Tottenham Hotspur would help them get closer to doing just that.
As with all North London Derbies, the atmosphere for this latest chapter of this historic and long standing rivalry is going to be sensational, but fans set to cheer their team on in the hope of victory. The game itself is set to be enthralling and highly competitive – no Arsenal fan will want to miss this game!
Since his appointment back in October 2019, where he replaced his fellow Spaniard Unai Emery, Mikel Arteta took charge of the Gunners following what was a short interim spell in charge from former club favourite Freddie Ljungberg. Since then, the club from North London has only gone from strength to strength.
During the 2022/23 Premier League season, Arsenal were able to seal what was a highly respectable 2nd place finish, only losing out on the title to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City by a margin of just 5 points – but it would be an even closer battle in the season after that.
In the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, the Gunners finished second again, behind Manchester City at the summit of the league table once more. However this time, Arsenal was even closer to tasting top flight league title glory, only to miss out to the Cityzens by a margin of just two points after earning what was a grand total of 89 points compared with City’s total of 91 points overall.
Last season (2024/25) was a campaign that saw Arsenal finish in second place for the third season running, earning a total of 74 points, losing out this time to Arne Slot’s Liverpool. They will be looking to take the next and final step and win the title in the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Moving on to Spurs, last season (2024/25) saw their former Head Coach Ange Postecoglou lead them to the 2025 UEFA Europa League Final, where they were able to beat Manchester United 1 – 0 to win a major trophy for the first time in more than a decade, and it also secured them qualification for the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League.
However, they did have to settle for what was a 17th place finish in the Premier League that season after earning a total of 38 points from their 38 matches overall. Shortly after the conclusion of their most recent campaign, Ange Postecoglou was dismissed by Tottenham ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Fierce North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur last met in a competitive fixture, which was in the Premier League back on 15th January 2025 at the iconic Emirates Stadium, in what was a crucial 2 – 1 victory, with a Dominic Solanke own goal and a goal from Leandro Trossard sealed the win, with the only Spurs goal coming from Son Heung-Min (25’).
This completed what was a domestic double for Arsenal over Spurs, having beaten them 1 – 0 earlier on in that season on 15th September 2024 (2024/25) at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the winning goal that day coming through the Gunners’ Brazilian international central defender Gabriel early on in the second half (64’).
Overall, Arsenal and Spurs have gone head to head competitively in all competitions on a grand total of 211 occasions, and it is the Gunners who have the superior record of 89 victories compared with Tottenham’s current total of 67 overall. There have also been 55 draws between them so far, as of the time of writing. Arsenal won the first ever competitive match between them 1 – 0 in the league all the way back on 9th November 1896.
